Yes, the term does come from the wings, I'd expect. It is a rather ridiculous term, but it works well enough for my purposes.

A multiverse is a single expression of one of the many billions of possibilities of any one universe. In Multiversal Theory, every event has the potential to stem off multiverses of its own, each reflecting the cumulative effects of many small differences.
... It is a vastly oversimplified explanation, but I am not certain how to better express the concept.
