“Oh my goodness, I was not expecting it to be this cold,” Ginny said with a huff, wrapping her arms around herself as she stood outside of the Three Broomsticks.
“I know, who would have guessed it would snow in late April, right?” a voice said behind her.
Turning, Ginny looked in surprise at Theo. “I definitely wasn’t expecting snow.”
“Why aren’t you heading in, Weasley?” Theo asked. “Standing in the doorway isn’t very productive, especially when it’s this cold.”
Ginny scowled at him. “Well, if you must know, it’s standing room only - and barely. It seems like everyone in Hogsmeade had the same idea about how to get warm.”
“Bummer,” Theo said, shoving his hands into his pockets. “You know, I can think of another way to warm up, Weasley.”
She rolled her eyes. “If you’re going to flirt with me, at least use my first name, Theo.”
“I love that you always call people out on their bullshit,” Theo said with a smile. “A woman who speaks her mind. I like that.”
“Most wizards do until they don’t.”
“Is that how you ended up on this Hogsmeade weekend alone? McLaggen realised he didn’t want a confident woman?” Theo pressed.
Ginny frowned. “I suppose so.”
“Come on, I know somewhere we can go huddle for warmth,” Theo linked his arm with Ginny and tugged her close.
“I’m not cuddling you,” Ginny protested feebly, but she let Theo pull her along anyway.
“The snow is pretty,” Theo said, slipping his hand down to hold hers.
Ginny wanted to protest but found the words dying in her mouth. Besides, she was cold in the snow and his hand felt warm and comforting. Truthfully, she didn’t know Theo Nott very much, just that he was a quiet Slytherin who was in Ron’s year. She bumped into him in the library frequently - she suspected that he was the only one who went there just as much as Hermione.
He pulled her into Tomes and Scrolls. “There’s a cute little nook in the back. We can sit and warm up while we wait for the crowd at the Three Broomsticks to die down.”
“Why are you being so nice?” Ginny asked, following him to the nook. Once they arrived, he sat down and she took a seat next to him.
Theo looked at her. “I don’t know… I’ve always thought you were cute, and you just looked so sad and cold standing there in the snow.”
“Oh, well, thanks, Theo.”
“No problem… Ginny.” Taking her hand, he laced their fingers once more and rested his head on her shoulder. He let out a small sigh once he was comfortable. "Your hair smells nice," he murmured softly.
Her cheeks warmed at his words. Their situation was strange, but Ginny decided not to overthink it and scooted slightly closer, thankful for the warmth of his body. She didn’t know if this was a one-time thing, or if it would turn into something more, but she was excited to find out.
