“I don’t understand the point of this,” Percy said, looking at the bucket of water. Various colored apples were bobbing up and down.
Hermione turned to look at Percy and smiled. “The bobbing for apples? Or the entire Halloween party?”
Percy’s lips twisted as he tried to resist smirking. “The apples…” He said, gesturing to the bucket. “It just doesn’t seem very sanitary.”
Hermione laughed. “Well, I suppose not, but it’s for fun. You could win a prize.”
“But I don’t need a prize,” Percy said, pulling her close. “Not when I already have you.” He pressed a kiss to her cheek.
“Stop being cute,” Hermione said, but she grinned. “Come on, Percy, it’ll be fun. Let loose and relax!”
“I’m plenty relaxed,” he assured her. “I even let you coerce me into carving a pumpkin the Muggle way.”
“Well, we’re at a Muggle party, so of course it needs to be the Muggle way,” she quipped.
“Will you promise me that this is the last themed activity I’ll have to do?”
“Promise,” Hermione said with a nod. If Percy competed in the bobbing for apples competition, she wouldn’t ask him to do anything else. Truthfully, she was glad that he came with her to her second-cousin’s Halloween party. Her parents had bugged her about bringing a date, and after some convincing, Percy agreed to go with her. He didn’t mind being around her parents, but being in the Muggle world made him nervous.
“Then I’ll do it,” Percy said after a moment. “But you’ll owe me.”
“Done,” Hermione said. “Whatever you want, it’s yours.”
“Promise?” He asked, arching a brow at her.
“Promise,” Hermione said with a head nod.
“All right, everyone! It’s time to bob some apples!” Someone shouted.
Hermione clapped her hands, watching as Percy glared at her before moving closer to the bucket. Hermione’s Uncle explained the rules and everyone got into positions.
“Come on, Perce! Get that apple!” Hermione said, shouting in excitement as she cheered him on.
Hands poised behind his back, on the sound of the whistle, Percy dunked his head beneath the water. Everyone rummaged around and a moment later, he tossed his head back - an apple in his mouth.
“Woohooo!” Hermione shouted, clapping for him.
“You know what that means, don’t you?” her mother said, nudging Hermione with a grin.
“What?” she asked, looking at her mother.
“First person to get the apple is the next one to get married.”
Hermione blushed. “Mum!” she hissed as Percy came over. She threw her arms around him and hugged, but found that she didn’t mind her mother’s words. In fact, she rather hoped that she and Percy would get married one day.
