Oct 24, 2021 15:54

Title: Black With a Tail
Pairing: Sybill/Remus
Rating: G
Word Count: 560
Summary: At Halloween 1993, Sybill sees a frightening apparition, as well as conflicting emotions on a dear, pale face.
Author's Notes: The prompts I got were: Black cat; Bobbing for apples. This is canon-compliant, a Sybill-pov missing scene from PoA. Thank you for the fun fest!

Very good! I've never even considered a Remus/Sybil pairing, and you've won me over. :)

Thank you for reading and for leaving such a lovely comment! I guess neither my Remus nor I had ever considered this pairing either, and Sybill must only hope she can win Remus over. :)

What an interesting pairing, Paula. I think you've captured Sybill's speech and thought patterns very well. It's such a temptation for all of us, to rewrite the world as we would have it be, and to interpret what we see so that it fits our own narrative. I'm glad Remus is kind to her (as of course he would be).

Oh, thank you for reading and for leaving such a lovely, thoughtful comment! I've found out afterwards that this pairing is truly rare: my fic is only the second one with it on AO3. The black cat made me think of a character who could be shaken by such a sighting, rather than a cat character, and bobbing for applesmeant that some older colleagues had been kind to arrange a nice get-together at what wasn't Remus's favourite holiday.

Yes, obviously I had to sneak Remus in. I hurried to write after rereading mainly about Halloween 1993, not many scenes with Trelawney, and I'm relieved you don't think I've gone astray with my Sybill's voice. Above all, it's wonderful how you make me realise that I've enjoyed including my Remus in another character's narrative and interpreted by her. It's lovely to let her love him while she can't know how hard it is for him to stay calm and kind and to escort her when he (still only) suspects that the tail belonged to someone else.
