Author's Notes: When I signed up I didn't know what pairings I'd get or where I'd take them. This story just came to me and took me to an unexpected place.

She made sure the mask was snug on her face before entering the center of the room. This was the part of the new curriculum she liked the most, the practical demonstration, she then raised her wand and hissed the word through gritted teeth, “Crucio!”

Mandy smiled inside as Michael Corner collapsed to the ground and screamed in agony. The screaming was what Mandy liked the most, it was music to her ears and she reveled in every single note.

She didn’t care for Michael, he was a barely marginal student, a social gadfly whose sole claim to notoriety was dating the girl who everyone knew was pining for Harry Potter. Harry Potter who had left everyone behind to go on some quixotic crusade that was doomed to fail. Voldemort was everywhere, everyone knew that and it was pointless trying to resist him.

Besides, Mandy got to do what she always liked to do, cause pain. She had been surprised when she hadn’t been sorted into Slytherin but soon came to realize it was for the best. Nobody trusted Slytherins and nobody suspected Ravenclaws, except for that stupid cow Marietta. Mandy still didn’t know why she’d gone blabbing to Umbridge, not when there were so many other ways to out Dumbledore’s Army without breaking the curse Granger had used.

Granger, there was another one Mandy looked forward to breaking, she was too smart for her own good and had no real measure of her potential, always with her nose in a book, that one, never living in the real world.

Mandy finally relented when Corner went silent and his body lay broken on the floor. Professor Carrow came out of her spot in the darkness to stand beside her. Mandy purred as she felt Alecto’s hand on her shoulder.

“Well done, my pet,” Alecto purred. “You certainly are my best pupil.”

“Thank you, Professor,” Mandy answered, a firm lock on her emotions as she tried her best not to beam with pride.

“Do you think we should put him out of his misery,” Alecto asked with genuine curiosity that Mandy understood to be a test.

“No, Professor,” Mandy answered, “he still has lessons to learn as do the other students. Have him taken back to his dormitory to rest. I’m sure we can teach him more tomorrow.

Alecto’s only response was to move her hand from Mandy’s shoulder, down her backside until it came to rest on a more delicate part of her anatomy. Mandy knew what she’d be learning tonight as she looked down at her teacher and she looked forward to it eagerly.

Later that evening, in the teacher’s wing of the castle, Mandy drifted in and out of consciousness. She knew she was a good student, Ravenclaws always were. Soon the Dark Lord would mark her as one of his servants and she would take her place by his side, right next to Alecto. Nobody ever suspected a Ravenclaw would turn to the dark side but Alecto had found things in Mandy that nobody else had ever bothered to look for.

As a half-blood Mandy had never thought she would be welcomed into the fold of Voldemort’s servants but hexing Crabbe and Goyle and leaving them to bleed out on the floor had been enough to draw attention to herself. Alecto had taught her more and more about the use of power as well as…other things. Mandy didn’t mind the nights she spent in the arms of another woman. It wasn’t love, because love was a foolishly weak emotion, but there was respect and that was something Mandy was willing to give.

She’d kill Alecto if she had to, if the Dark Lord commanded her to, just as she knew Alecto would kill her if the need arose. Until then she’d learn as much as she could and she’d do what it took to survive. She never suspected anything was wrong until she saw the flash of green light out of the corner of her eye and heard Alecto’s voice begin to invoke a curse.

It didn’t take Mandy long to realize she was a ghost. As she floated above them, she watched as Alecto bury her body in a shallow grave behind the greenhouses. She didn’t know how but Mandy swore she’d have her revenge, if not on Alecto then on someone.
