Summary: Dual displays of immaturity make for a tense situation.
If there was one thing Rose Weasley knew without a doubt, it was that her father would be furious if he knew where she was tonight. It didn’t matter that she was twenty years old and living on her own, she would always be his little girl, and this was not someone he would want his little girl associating with. Rose enjoyed Cormac McLaggen’s company, though, and in her mind, her twenties were for having fun. She could wait until her thirties to be more serious in her love life. She stretched languidly before slipping out from under the covers, feet padding lightly over the carpeted floors of Cormac’s bedroom. As she crossed to the bathroom, she picked up her clothes, thinking she’d take a quick shower.
Rose was charming her hair up in a complicated twist at the base of her neck, Cormac’s oversized robe wrapped around her body after her shower when he came into the room. She smiled, eyes following him in the mirror when he stepped up behind her, firm body pressed against her back as he ducked his head to press a kiss to the crook of her neck.
“Didn’t think I’d want to join you?” Cormac asked with a lazy smirk, sleep still around the edges of his eyes as his fingers deftly tugged the belt of the robe open.
“You know I’ve got to get to work,” Rose reminded him, though she flushed, feeling a stirring of desire starting up in her already.
“Skive off,” he suggested in a low voice, lips already moving slowly over her bare neck. “Your boss won’t mind.”
That comment was enough to make Rose go stiff, her jaw setting in an annoyed line. “Just because I’m sleeping with you doesn’t mean I don’t take my job seriously,” she said firmly, obviously not appreciating the thought that she’d be the type to neglect her duties just because she was sleeping with her boss.
Cormac pulled back, his expression darkening slightly. “Come on, Rose, it’s not like you’ll even be missed today.”
“What the hell is that supposed to mean?” Rose asked sharply, eyes meeting his in the mirror, her grip going tighter around her wand.
“Calm down. I was just meaning that there aren’t any big projects starting up this week, so no one will really notice if one little intern is not around,” he pointed out with a smirk, though Rose could see the tightness around his eyes, the other hints in his expression of his annoyance.
Well, too damn bad, because she was pretty bloody annoyed too. “One little intern?” she repeated sharply, pulling away from him and turning to look at him with narrowed eyes.
“Oh, come on, Rose,” Cormac said as he stepped to her again, lowering his head as though to kiss her.
Rose stepped back, tense and frustrated. “No, don’t you dare. You don’t get to kiss me like a woman when you’re treating me like a child. I’m leaving now.”
She picked up her pile of clothes and apparated back to her flat, his protests falling on empty air. Cormac was fun, but this clandestine affair wasn’t worth being talked down to like that, she thought with a huff as she dumped her clothes in her hamper and went to her closet to pick out something fresh to wear. She would get dressed, go to work, and prove that she was an important part of it all.
