"Pansy!"

As the loud voice boomed behind her, and a thick hand rested not all that gently on her shoulder, Pansy jumped out of her skin. Whipping round with the scariest glare she could muster, she turned to see who had interupted her thoughts.

Millicent. Perfect.

"Still hasn't asked you, eh?" Millicent asked, pointing at where Pansy had been staring.

Draco Malfoy holding court over by the other end of the yard, gesticulating wildly as he told some, no doubt heroic, story to Crabbe and Goyle who were looking very confused but laughing along as they knew they should.

Pansy pursed her lips, "No. He didn't. I just found out he's taking Tracey Davis! And I had to find it out from her! After all the things he said to me..." Her voice became shriller as she spoke, and she tried to reign it in.
"Like I care anyway." She shook her head, trying to toss her hair back behind her shoulder, forgetting she had had it cut recently. Recovering quickly, she continued hoping Millicent hadn't noticed. "I've got plenty of options anyway. He may be a Malfoy, but he's hardly the only suitable date."

"So, who else asked you?"

Another look of anger flashed across Pansy's face. Why couldn't Millicent just butt out? Why was she constantly following Pansy around, saying all the wrong things, putting her big, fat foot in her big, fat mouth?

"Or, I mean...you could always ask someone. It's the only way to guarantee the perfect date really. Boys are so shy around you, they probably wouldn't ask you, assuming you'd say no." Millicent had noticed Pansy's irritation, and finally said the right thing.

"You're right." Pansy scanned the courtyard, her eyes settling on Blaise. "Blaise would be perfect. Plus, it would really annoy Draco if I went with him." She blushed, she hadn't meant to say that last part.

"He's...uh...well, he's already going with Daphne," Millicent garbled.

Without pausing to take a breath, she whipped round and pointed at a tall, broad, handsome boy who was standing quite close. He was snarling at one of the Weasley twins, they looked to be arguing about something.

"What about him?"

"Cormac McLaggen?" Pansy sneered, "While I admit he's certainly good looking, he's hardly my type. Plus, he's a Gryffindor. Like I would ever, ever date a Gryffindor."

"Why not? I mean, sure he's a Gryffindor, but he's pureblood, well bred, rich, athletic, totally dreamy..."

Pansy snapped her fingers. "Hellooo. Millie."

Millicent shook her head, snapping out of her trance. "Anyway, he's pretty much the perfect guy, except for the Gryffindor thing... but I mean, that'll just make Draco madder. Then he'll totally regret not asking you first."

Pansy bit her lip, her eyes flicking between Draco and Cormac. She finally settled her gaze at Cormac who was leaning against the wall, totally alone now that Weasley Twin #2 had walked away, levitating a Quaffle, a smirk on his face. She let a sly smile slip onto her face as she imagined her walking into the Yule Ball on his arm, she bet he cleaned up real smart in dress robes and she could definitely imagine dancing in those arms.

"Well...when you put it like that, maybe I will."

She jumped off the bench and strode towards him.

I couldn't add an author or pairing tag as they don't exist yet, but I'm sure you'll do that for me! :)
