Title: Rainy Day, Don't Go Away
Character Pairing: Remus/Lily
Prompt: "As You Were"
Rating: G
Word Count: 417
Summary: Remus Lupin loves the rain, but not for the same reasons James Potter and Sirius Black love the rain...
Author's Notes: I'm sort of messing with different points of view and angles as I go along, which is basically why this drabble set is ending up with completely different drabbles each time. xD I'm experimenting. Don't usually write for Lily either, so any criticism on her part would be L♥VELY.
Link to Promp Table: Voila!

Remus Lupin loves the rain, but not for the same reasons James Potter and Sirius Black love the rain. Sirius loves the rain because he loves the mud. He likes to roll in it. He likes to jump in it. He likes to smear it all across James’ glasses.

James loves the rain because he loves what he can do with the endless supply of it. He can obstruct corridors with pools of it. He can “accidentally” drop his homework in it. He can dump buckets of it onto Severus’ head, or into Peter’s shoes.

Peter only loves the rain because Remus, Sirius and James love the rain. In reality, Lily knows Peter doesn’t really like the rain at all.

Remus, on the other hand, loves the rain because it makes him feel free. He doesn’t have to worry about looking as good as everybody else when it rains. Everybody is uniformly drenched. Their hair is wet and flat, their faces either pink and raw or pale and freezing. The student body becomes a dripping mass of smelly coats and shapeless scarves. Remus finally gets to pretend that he fits in.

Lily doesn’t know why she knows so much about Remus, only that all she really does know is that he smiles more when it rains. He doesn’t fret over his hair or his scarf like he usually does. He lets his socks get soggy and he even-- dare she believe her own eyes?-- lets his tie hang a little crooked (if he thinks nobody can see). Like now.

“Is there something wrong?” He adjusts his tie as discreetly as he knows how. His hand flies to his hair, shoving it into place, even if the wet strands don’t want to stay. He looks tense. He frowns a little.

Lily has forgotten she’s been watching him as he reads in front of the fire. She wishes she had kept to herself, because for a few moments he looked like he did when he was out in the rain. Disheveled and soggy, but relaxed, and content to the extent that it seemed a little out of place on him. He’s always been laid-back, yes, but he’s also always fussing. Now he’s back to fussing.

“No, nothing,” she sighs.

And she wishes he would go back to the way he was before, when he was out in the rain, because when he’s like this, she just doesn’t know what to do with herself.
