Oh, this is great! Very poetically done, and exactly what I've wanted. If you think about it, Hiro confronting Nathan in the street is the only plot that actually changes between the universe of the bomb exploding, and the universe where it doesn't. I've really wanted to see a fic where Nathan saves the world because of his emotional connection with Hiro, and this just did it very well.

And left me very much hoping there's a scene in S2 where Hiro talks with Nathan and discovers that Nathan's heart was breaking as much as his was when he thought it couldn't be stopped... *sniffle*

I'm hoping the same thing. It pretty much broke my heart when Hiro called Nathan a villain. I really want him to know how conflicted Nathan was, and how helplessly he was entwined in the whole situation. My poor slasher heart demands it!

Thanks a lot. I'm really glad you liked it. I want to believe that Peter believes in Nathan that way, but I have a feeling he's been disappointed by his big brother a few too many times to have the same level of faith that Hiro does. Until I started writing this, I didn't even realize how important Hiro was to Nathan. It was definitely something to think about!

I loved this so very much. It's concise and packs a lot of punch - bittersweet and sad. And this is what I love about Nathan/Hiro - how easily Hiro gets underneath Nathan's shark exterior, and how big an effect he actually has on him.
