Was really excited when I inadvertently saw some of the scene's from M. Night Shyamalan's Avatar: The Last Airbender. Really enjoyed all three “Books” from Nickelodeon so I was dubious about seeing them being somehow manipulated/condensed into a movie. Just now glanced over a critic collection from iVillage entitled “Is 'Last Airbender' the Worst Read more... )

It's definitely not the worst movie of all time. Take it in the context of what it is -- a Nickelodeon movie, with good effects. The most annoying part is the voicing over, but they do a lot of that in the cartoon as well sooo I assume someone made a decision somewhere to keep that. I doubt the producers realized that the audience for this children's show skewed so adult; it's a pretty good story, and the show went viral enough that plenty of adults watch it with their DVR, etc.

Dev Patel is gorgeous. Aasif Mandvi is very well cast; I kept expecting him to make a Daily Show joke, honestly. Still, it has issues and sure, it's not a great movie by any means. I wouldn't have known it was a "3d movie" if I hadn't checked the ticket price. They should have left it as it was and not thrown in some very sad 3d after the fact.

If you see it in the theatre, you'll hate it less than if you saw it on dvd.
