I stand alone

1. Marcus is a loner and doesn’t expect that to change. He is lonely sometimes, but that’s not something he would admit to anyone. He sees it as a sign of vulnerability, and he’d rather people thought he was an arse than to know he ever needed anyone. Trusting others and being on the receiving end of kindness is not something he’s had much experience with in his life. It still surprises him when people don’t seem to mind talking to him - on those occasions when he thinks first before speaking.

2. Since losing his job at Quality Quidditch Supplies, Marcus has been living at home again with his Father. The emotional distance between him and his Father is something Marcus knows won’t ever change. It’s how it’s always been between them. However, living at home again has also brought back memories of his childhood when his mum was alive. He doesn’t like being reminded of a time when he had someone in his life who loved him. Why remember something he’ll never have again?

3. Marcus’ favorite meal is a thick steak with a double order of chips on the side. He treats himself to one every paycheck. His hedonistic outlook places immediate gratification as a top priority.

4. Marcus knows he drinks too much but doesn’t really care. His Father is an angry drunk but for Marcus, it’s the opposite. Alcohol relaxes him and mellows him out, making it easier to tolerate his Father’s rage and rants at Marcus and the world in general.

5. Marcus knows he’s doesn’t have book smarts. He uses the ‘too many Bludgers to the head’ excuse but he never was any good in school. He managed the basic required learning but had a hard time concentrating on most subjects. It was okay though, because his Father never really seemed to care about his grades - until he had to repeat a year.

6. Marcus won’t need to train for Quidditch anymore, but he plans to keep running. It’s just the right amount of physical exertion for a good workout and it clears his mind when things are troubling him. It’s no wonder he runs so much.

7. Marcus has never had a real relationship. Casual sex suits him just fine. He’s not one to share his feelings and hasn’t found anyone he would trust with them anyway. His conquests have mostly been Quidditch bints, with no emotional connection.

8. Marcus still has his Quidditch robes from his days playing for the Falmouth Falcons. Once, wearing those dark grey & white robes with a Falcon on the chest was a symbol of pride for him. Now, they’re just a reminder of what could have been. He recently took them from the back of his closet and boxed them up for storage.

9. Marcus’ two worst fears have always been ending up like his Father and being unable to play Quidditch. Now that one has come to pass, that leaves the other on his mind even more. He doesn’t know how to change what may be inevitable but he doesn’t like what he sees for his future. Was he raised to be miserable and alone like his Father, or is it not too late for his life to turn out differently?

10. Flying has always been an important part of Marcus’ life but he’s not been on his broom since he found out he’d never again play professional Quidditch. He’s misses it and is beginning to realize just how much flying was always his escape from everyone and everything. He needs to get back in the air. He’s realizing his love of flying is something no one can take away from him.
