1. Stubborn as a mule. His first show of magic was at the age of four. His Mother asked him to come in for dinner and when he refused she sent his Father out to fetch him. Marcus sat on the grass and wouldn’t move. No matter how his Father tried to move him he wouldn’t budge. It was as if there was a permanent sticking charm on his backside.
2. He did what he likes to think of as the intelligent thing during the war, he kept his head down and looked after number one. His Father had a big problem with this but that only made him more determined to stay away from everything. He does what he wants to do, not what anyone tells him.
3. Working in a shop is obviously beneath him. He should be making the most of his Quidditch talent. The fact that he needs the money is undeniable though. His family is pure blood - but not wealthy.
4. Flint by name, flint by nature. He is tough and prides himself on not showing weakness. But if flint is fractured it will shatter into razor blade sharp pieces. If his exterior toughness is broken he wouldn’t handle it at all well.
5. ‘Do whatever it takes to win’ is how he used to think. Now he’s not so sure. So far it’s only got him as far as working in a shop.
6. His favourite food is a rare steak. Nice and bloody. Preferably with a cold beer alongside it.
7. He doesn’t think his drinking is a problem. It helps him relax and forget his troubles. He hasn’t yet compared himself to his Father.
8. He was very close to his Mother when he was little. He used to pretend to be a warrior so he could protect her when she and his Father argued. Marcus would always end up running and hiding under his bed covers though.
9. Ten year old Marcus felt guilty that he couldn’t protect his Mother from dying. He felt alone. He hid the pain behind the flinty exterior along with the memory of being the warrior and pretended he couldn’t remember either.
10. His love of Quidditch kept him going when things were hard at home. When he was missing his Mother he would go and practice and loose himself in that. It was also a good way to avoid his Father during the holidays from Hogwarts.
11. He has never had what most people would consider a girlfriend. They always want more than he has to give. He prefers casual sex. He tells himself that it’s easier, more enjoyable, that he doesn’t need or want anything more.
12. He misses the camaraderie of competing at Quidditch. He likes being part of a team. It was an easy way of making friends.
13. He misses the feeling of winning a match more.
