About The Association for Magical Equality and Diversity

Feb 28, 2008 11:06

Official Name: The Association for Magical Equality and Diversity
Acronymn: TAMED, which Fleur does not use. She is conscious of it though because of Hermione's caution having dealt with S.P.E.W. being called 'Spew'.
Short Name: Magical Equality
Location: Diagon Alley, near Ollivander's. The square building across from the second-hand robe shop and the closed Gambol and Japes. The office is one of four on the first floor above a ground floor retail shop.
Access: There is a door at street level that is wood with a frosted glass window. The window has lettering indicating the businesses above. The Association for Magical Equality and Diversity is listed first in large letters. This door is unlocked when the businesses on the first floor are open. The door at street level leads up a flight of stairs to the first floor hallway. The hallway has doors to two smallish offices on the street side. The first is Fleur's, the other small one is rented to an Arthimancy service. The larger office across the hall is currently empty (Fleur will eventually lease that space). The door to the Magical Equality Office is also wood with a mail slot and frosted glass window lettered with the name of her agency, her name, and office hours.
Hours: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 9-5, Friday 9-12. Other hours by appointment. Fleur usually works Monday and Thursday in the office. The other hours are staffed by her volunteers.

Setup: The door opens on a one room office.
There are two windows overlooking Diagon Alley.
There is conference table with six chairs (a converted dining table from Fleur's parents) near the first window directly across from the door as you walk in.
There is a large roll top desk that belonged to Fleur's grandfather in the far corner near the other window. The desk is sometimes separated from the rest of the room by a folding screen Bill made for her.
Along the hallway wall, in the corner opposite the desk is a casual seating area with a small settee, tea table and two chairs.
On the interior wall between the desk and the casual seating area is the fireplace, which has a Floo connection.
On the desk side of the fireplace, there is a cabinet which houses files in the bottom and tea things on its counter and in the hutch on top.

Muggle Communication: There is a muggleborn volunteer living in muggle London who relays telephone messages. There is a muggle post office box that another volunteer checks every weekday for mail. The mail is then forwarded by owl or delivered in person.
Magical Communication: The office is on the Floo network and the Floo is open during business hours. There is an office owl (although Fleur primarily uses her own owl Solange for correspondence).

Volunteers: There are many part-time volunteers doing unique jobs for her. Most are NPCs Fleur has helped, but the following played characters have also participated.
Hermione Granger - researched the laws regarding discrimination and equal treatment of muggleborns in the wizarding world.
Dean Thomas - visited the families of the students released from Azkaban, helped with the visits to incoming muggleborn First Year Hogwarts students, helped the muggle parents with shopping for school supplies.
Luna Lovegood - provided potted plants for the office.
Eloise Midgen - helped arrange textbook packs for the First Year Hogwarts students to make shopping easier at Flourish and Blotts.
Ginny Weasley - helped Fleur work out the schedule for the volunteers escorting the muggleborn students and their families during their school supply shopping.
Meghan McCormack - helped the muggle parents with shopping for school supplies.
Roger Davies - interviewing people to help track missing family members.
Narcissa Malfoy - currently discussing ways she might aid Fleur's agency, hopefully in some fundraising capacity.
Other Involvement: There are others who have had involvement or have worked with Fleur's agency. Most are NPCs, but the following played characters have also participated.
Kingsley Shacklebolt - arranged for contacts at the Ministry for Fleur to work with in the Muggle Liaison Office, Wizengamot, International Cooperation, and Magical Law Enforcement.
Minerva McGonagall - working with the agency to arrange visits with families, track lost relatives, and arrange for muggleborn student's home visits.
