25 Random Things About Me

Feb 03, 2009 12:17

This is something I did on Facebook, but since I never post on livejournal much, I thought I'd post it here. If you'd like to participate, I'd love to learn more about you.

Rules: Once you've been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it's because I want to know more about you.
(To do this, go to “notes” under tabs on your profile page, paste these instructions in the body of the note, type your 25 random things, tag 25 people (in the right hand corner of the app) then click publish.)

1. I adore tea. Black tea, green tea, white tea, red tea, herbal tea. I love to brew it. My husband doesn't understand why I don't just nuke the water, but I love to boil it in my kettle and pour it over the leaves into my Japanese teapot. I love watching the arc of colored water pour from the spout into the cup. Mostly, I love drinking it from my wedding china cups, although right now I'm drinking it from a mug. I wish we had afternoon tea as a tradition here. Tea relaxes me, and makes me feel thoughtful and just a little bit sophisticated. But not so much that I can hardly stand myself.

2. I have Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. As a child, I was always anxious and I recall many anxiety dreams and moments of stark reality that struck me so hard I freaked out on a regular basis. I can remember specifically when the OCD really started. I was 10, sitting in English class, looking at sentences the teacher had written on the board. The fourth sentence had a word in it that had to do with death or drowning. That was when the number four became bad. The rituals started soon after, and then the panic attacks. I did not know what was wrong with me me until I was 14. I didn't know it had a name, or that other people had it. Now everyone knows what it is, but they don't really know the hell it can bring unless they live it.

3. I'm talented, but I have severe limits. I can play piano, but only certain pieces. I'm not the fearless actress I would like to be. I'm a soprano, but sometimes I really don't want to sing the high notes.

4. I suck at self-promotion. Couldn't cut it in New York.

5. I'm really hard on myself.

6. I'm spiritual, but I'm searching.

7. I think Buddha and Jesus have a lot in common. They're also very different. I'd like to see what it takes to become a Christian Buddhist although some believe that to be impossible.

8. I'm a feminist. And that's not a bad word. To me feminism is the demand for the world to see women as whole human beings, and not put here for the sole purpose of being used by men. Feminism is the demand that women be given choices, that we become unlimited in our lives so that we are not confined to one or two roles.

9. The only Jane Austen book I really love is Pride and Prejudice. (I haven't read Persuasion or Northanger Abbey, to be fair.) I couldn't finish Emma, Sense and Sensibility just rambled and I loathed Mansfield Park. I loved the movies, though.

10. I support gay marriage. Read this article:  http://www.newsweek.com/id/172653?gt1=43002

11. Violence against women gets me REALLY angry.

12. I don't believe in the Garden of Eden story. It's a fable or metaphor for growth and development. There. I said it.

13. I don't understand finance, the stock market, etc. What's a 401K? Don't answer that, I won't understand.

14. I hate to work. Meaning, I hate having a job and a boss. The only work I really want to do is acting and singing, and maybe activism.

15. I really want to be a backup singer.

16. I'm a perfectionist who is also a procrastinator.

17. I love to cook and bake.

18. I'm learning to meditate.

19. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is my favorite TV show of all time.

20. I married a wonderful man who loves me despite all my warts (figurative warts) and we have an amazing little girl that I love with all my heart.

21. I spent time in a mental hospital. Three days only, but enough to burn it on my soul. Nothing like having your dental floss taken away from you because of what you might do with it.

22. My father is an atheist and my mother is a Methodist.

23. I love my mother and father.

24. My pop culture obsessions are heavily influenced by my older brother. Therefore, I am a geek. And I am proud of that. My husband scored a woman who likes video games and Star Wars.

25. I want to be a Elf in the upcoming movie adaptation of "The Hobbit". Not an important Elf, just a background Elf in a gorgeous costume, and pretty hair. I also really want the pointy ears. I told you I was a geek. (Are you listening, Peter Jackson?)
