Interviewer: You say in the song Glass Onion, "Here's another clue for you all...The Walrus was Paul."
John Lennon: At that time, still in my love cloud with Yoko, I thought, well, you know, I'll just say something nice to Paul that it's alright, and you know, you did a good job all these few years, holding us together, and you know, he was trying to organize the group AND do the music AND be an individual, and all that, so I just wanted to say something to him. And I did it for that reason. I thought "Well he can have it, you know, I've got Yoko and thank you, you can have the credit."
I've decided I'm sick of between reading that Paul is the musician and George is the philosopher, I'm wondering where I fit in. What was my contribution? I get hurt. I'm sick of it so I'm soon to say "Listen you fuckers, this is what I did." and I don't care whether you like my attitude sayin' it but..that's what I am. I'm a fucking artist, man, and I'm NOT a fucking PR agent or the product of some other person's imagination whether you're the public or whatever. I'm standing by me word, whereas before I would not stand by it. So that's what I was sayin' I was the walrus, whatever that means, we saw the movie in LA and the walrus was a capitalist that ate all the fucking oysters, if you must know, that's what he was, the walrus was a fucking bastard, that's what he turned out to be. But in the way it's written, everyone presumes it must mean something, just because I say "I am the walrus" it must mean that I am god or something, but it's just poetry.
