So last night I got an email from my Aunt Cro, giving me a link to a website for 7-up, where there is this number-guessing game. What happens is, you pick a number with 3 or more digits, then rearrange the digits and subtract that number from the first one (ex: 7654-5746=1908). Then you take that new number (1908) and circle one of the digits from it. You type in the other digits, (ex: if I circled the number 1, then I would type in 9,0, and 8) and then it guesses what the other digit is.

So at about midnight last night I decided to see if I could figure out how it worked. And I did. It only took me about half an hour, using a pencil, one piece of paper, and of course a calculator.

I then spent about two hours writing out the proof and emailing it back to my aunt cro (who most likely couldn't understand what I wrote). I also emailed it to my brother and my mom (b/c aunt cro had sent the email to them, too). There was one part that I knew to be true but couldn't actually prove.

I won't go into the reason why it works, but I will challenge any other nerds out there (Steve Peters or Derrick, or even Rich) to see if they can figure it out. Something to do if you're extremely bored or ever get insomnia like i did.
