Day 1 - SQL PASS Conference 2006

Nov 15, 2006 01:33

So im in my Seattle hotel room right now after a long day of touring Seattle. I thought my SQL conference started today but it's actually the pre-conference seminars today and i decided not to register for those. Soo, after realizing i came to Seattle a day earlier, i had a whole day to myself to wander the streets. Quick recap:

- West coast time is 3 hrs behind and my blueberry time didnt change - how many times did i check the time only to find out it was 12pm not 3pm or 5pm not 8pm..
- Spent the first part of the morning registering for the conference at the Washington State Conference Centre (about 10 min walk away)
- After that, walked down to Pike Place Market and had lunch at the Athenian - apparently it was in the Sleepless in Seattle movie
- day was very grey and by noon, i must have walked about 30 miles
- stopped at Ye Old Curiosity Shoppe by the waterfront which had mummified corpses on display..cool.
- Got back to my hotel around 1 and caught a last-minute tour bus (3 hrs) around Seattle
- saw first-ever Starbucks (i actually walked by it at the market though i didnt know it was #1), Harbor Steps, Ballard locks, various neighbourhoods (Magnolia is awesome, Fremont, Queen Anne, University District, Lake Union and Elliott, Beacon Hill, etc.)
- checked out the Klondike Rush Museum and learned a bit of history by the only curator present (rush was in 1897 and lasted about 2 yrs)
- got dropped off at REI (much better than MEC) and was looking for warmer clothes since i think i packed the wrong type of clothes for Seattle; its rainy and COLD (5-8 C)
- just came back from a workout and swim at the hotel fitness centre
- gonna crash soon since i gotta be up at 6:45am....yes.

I'd love to post pics but they're all on my camera right now. Funny thing when you travel alone is that im in about 2 out of 40+ pics so far...lol.

Still to do:
- Space Needle
- Seattle Centre
- Watch a Sonics game on Friday
- Experience Music Project
- Seattle Underground Tour
- ....oh yah, go to the conference over the next 3 days.
