Hey everyone! HEY GANG! Remember I was saying I'd try nn' come up with something to attend after MISSING Otakon? I've got an idea I hope you'll like! And all are welcome!
Would anyone be interested on taking a group cruise on the Carnival Conquest? :D I and my mom are currently working on scheduling a 7-day vacation for lots of our online pals, and are extending the opportunity to our groups and friends over the internet for a meet-up of massive proportions! I thought this could be an amazing way for many of us to get together and have a great time-- a truly fantastic getaway for all! But for those who've never taken a cruise before, these are the stats!
Ship: Carnival Conquest
When: September 10th, 2006
Duration: 7-day, sailing on a Sunday from Galveston, TX
Where: The Western Caribbean -- Grand Cayman, Montego Bay, Cozumel!
Here's what to expect:
:D Complete accommodations for the entire 7 days. There are no hotel bills, you stay on the ship in private staterooms.
:D Free food for the entire duration of the trip. This includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner. All meals are prepared by 4 Star Chiefs and include high end food such as lobsters, shrimp, fillet mignon, etc. Additionally, throughout the entire day food is served somewhere on board, usually with a theme. AND you can order roomservice 24/7 too. The only thing you pay for is juice and alcoholic beverages.
:D Free great entertainment. This ranges from evening Las Vegas style shows, comedy acts, magicians, etc. Throughout the entire day there are activities like contests, games, horse racing, hula-hoop marathons, ice sculpturing and more. Lots of bars with live bands and performers (something for every taste) along with dancing. And did I mention the Casinos?
:D Free accommodations for children of all ages if the parents want to get away for a little bit. These are held in specific facilities on board (based on age group) just for them. The ratio is about 1 cruise staff for every 5 kids. They create special events for them like the "coke-tail" parties, "masquerade balls", supervised scavenger hunts, etc. Hardest thing usually is prying the kids away when you come to pick them up.
:D Exotic port of calls. During the cruise the boat stops at several locations. Here you can go off board and take in the sights, go shopping (usually tax free), do whatever you'd like until the ship gets ready to leave. The cruise line offers it's own off-board activities too, such as scuba diving, paragliding, water skiing, visiting their own private island for sunbathing & refreshments, swimming with the dolphins, and more stuff than I can write about here (these do have a nominal charge for them).
:D And of course, on board you have the pools, hot spas, shops, game arcades, libraries (for when you want some quiet time), exercise rooms, etc. You can also make appointments (for a fee) at their Spa for massages, aromatherapy, and beauty treatments of any kind from getting your hair or nails done to having your makeup applied.
:D Dress code is casual; jeans, shorts, whatever. The only "dress up" night is the "Captains Dinner" which is held during one of the nights on board. And it's up to you if you want to attend it or not, just as it is with all the options they present to you.
:D Lastly another thing to consider also is the top notch service you get the entire time. The cruise staff treats you like you are some sort of royalty, doing everything they can to make your stay enjoyable. I still remember my utter surprise the first time I came in to sleep to find my room completely made, with my sheets folded down, my pj's artistically shaped to look like a stuffed teddy bear, and chocolates on my pillow. Oooo yeah.....
And on top of it, they tell you specifically not to tip your waiters, bus boys, etc, until the last day.

I know you're probably already asking yourself how MUCH this would cost, and really, that depends on how many people we get to go! The price AT BASE and PER PERSON is a little less that $540.00-- BUT! If we manage to get at least 16 people the price will drop to about $340.00 a person. :D Pretty nifty, huh? This is why the trip duration is set a year in advance, so peoples would have time to save and plan! Air/Bus/Train fare is on you, however, so remember to consider how you'll get to the ship!
I've taken three of these vacations before, in the past, and omig they rocked in so many freakin' ways.
Anyway, if it's doable, I strong encourage you guys to consider going. :D It would be so cool to make an amazing get-together out of this, and we've got time to plan and help and such! What I'm in the process of doing NOW is seeing who would like to go! Saying you're interested DOESN'T commit you to ANYTHING, it just lets me go to my travel agent and say 'I think I'll have 20 people or so' so he can give me a set price I may then relay to you! Groups = major discounts! Invite your friends and family!
Whatcha' guys think? Comments and questions are welcome here!
