End of an Era

Very sad news from Kentwell today. Peony, the last of the Suffolks died today. Mayflower and Rosie both died over Christmas leaving only the Suffolk cross, Comfrey.
Both Rosie and May were getting on, Rosie certainly so (in fact, for the last couple of years, as she's gently swayed on the spot, the ostlers have worried that she was going to go out in style mid event in full view of the public, but, every year, there she still was.) but Peony was only 15. Sadly she had problems with her back legs which is a slippery slope with heavy horses.
Although Comfrey will always be my favourite, mad, bad idiot that he is, I really loved Pea. She was a no-nonsense grumpy madam with only one eye and she was beautiful and boss horse, no question and I will miss her terribly.
No idea what will happen with Comfrey now. He is being kept company at the moment by the donkeys but he's a boisterous soul who needs some serious bossing and I don't think the donkeys will tolerate him for very long. I would love him to stay on at Kentwell but I'd rather he was happy with other horses. Whatever happens, its the end of the ostlers at Kentwell. We'll all still be about the Manor at different stations but we won't be the ostler enclave anymore and I really don't quite know what to do with that.
