Didn’t pack last night: watched ‘The Three Musketeers’ instead (The good one with the screenplay by George MacDonald Fraser with Oliver Reed, Michael York and Christopher Lee) so that’s OK. It’s a brilliant film, mostly filmed in wideshot so you get the hilarious reactions and crowd/background business. Lots of lovely little historical details as well which aren’t essential to the storyline but are just there because they can be. Will have to dig out the ‘The Four Musketeers’ when I get back from Middlewich. After I tidy my room, obviously…
I therefore have a list of things to take which I shall throw together as soon as I get home. (The plus side being that I at least know where everything is. It’s all on the bedroom floor and it’s not a big room). Important things to have are rapper kit and gin. Everything else can be worked around.
All flaily and excited despite the weather. Rapper weekend; how could I not be? Really, the only bit of the weekend I’m not looking forward to is the Procession. Tent should be dry overnight (big factor in buying Coffin Tent was its high waterproof rating and the fact that the flysheet goes up 1st (and the whole thing goes up in under 10 minutes if I’m taking it easy)), and we’re either dancing (mostly) inside (and when we’re out, the dances aren’t that long) or at concert, inside. The procession, however, is outside and could take a while. We may be going with Angie’s bin bag plan…
In other news, having watched ‘The Three Musketeers’ last night, my history sense is throbbing again. I may have to look up the midnight showings at the Globe and see if I can make any. Went to see the midnight showing of Faustus at the Globe last year and it was brilliant. I know Twelfth Night is sold out (although I may hold out for a return) but they’re doing Richard III, Henry V, Taming of the Shrew and As You Like It, all of which I like. May also consider going to Kentwell as a punter during the big summer event. (Am considering doing Kentwell again next year if they opt for a late year (after 1560 would be good). It was fun last time and I’ve got these gorgeous Elizabethan shoes from Kevin Garlick (the main reason for me wanting to Elizabethan rather than Henrician. Would have to buy new earlier period shoes and I can’t settle for cheap stuff anymore) which have not yet had an outing but really, really deserve one. Also need incentive to get on with making kit out of all my lovely, lovely fabric, not least because it will lower the fabric pile and clear some much needed space!)
But, in the meantime, the countdown to Middlewich is nearly set to go!
