Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Jet's tall. I put him at around 5'11", maybe verging on 6'? He's slim, whipcordish and limber, but he's got some muscle going for him in the right places.
2. How old is he?
17.
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
Jet's a leader, and he carries himself like one. Straight-backed and confident, but with a cool sort of casualness to it. There's no stiffness in his posture, and if he were born into the modern world, he'd probably have swagger out the ass.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
His health is somewhere between average and good, I guess. Growing up an orphan in the forest isn't exactly the pinnacle of nutritional goodness and well-being, but he got along fine. He makes sure to get himself a lot of regular exercise, and is very very. He has no illnesses/disabilities.
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
Casual and fluid. Idk, when I imagine him moving, it's all very casual yet coordinated and smooth. I sound like a fangirl.. :|
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
He's hot shit. Haha, no, he's a pretty good-looking guy! He knows how and when to turn on the charm. He knows that people think he's good-looking, but I don't think he's particularly vain about it. Just... really confident.
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
Light/medium brown, various small scars all over his body from his skirmishes and fights over the years. He's got a big, nasty one on his chest. Thanks a lot, Long Feng.
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style.
Dark/dirty brown, almost black in some lights. Shaggy and messy and yet still cool. It's probably more than a little coarse; he spends all that time in the sun.
9. What color are his eyes?
Brown.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
He always has a stalk of wheat or grass in his mouth.
11. What are his chief tension centers?
I'm going to say his fists and shoulders.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
Uhhhhh the clothes he wears are a ragtag patchwork of armour and sewn together clothes, probably ones he's had for years, and just adjusted to suit as he got older. What would you call that, utilitarian? In Paradisa, he sticks to his clothes mostly, but he also wears plain, casual, easy-to-move in tunics and pants typical of the Earth Kingdom. He sticks to neutral earth tones, and some blue and red otherwise, I guess.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
They fit okay, I guess? For clothes that weren't orginally his. And yes, he's comfortable in everything; the clothes don't make the vigilante.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
No job, other than freedom fighting and being a douche, so yes. Tamaki roped him into the Host Club in Paradisa, but most of the time he'll just wear whatever he wants. :|b
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
Whatever underwear is typical of the Earth Kingdom? :| Some sort of boxers-ish thing, I guess? :| This question never fails to make me feel creepy? :|
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
It's a young man's voice, medium-pitched, smooth, confident.
2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
He speaks very easily; it comes naturally to him. His volume goes up and down, but it's normally somewhere between medium and loud, I guess. He's a pretty casual guy, and his voice is normally evenly-paced, but can rise when he gets impassioned or angry, and get lower and slower when he's being charming and whatever. Oontz.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
He has an Earth Kingdom accent? I guess? No real quirks or tics that I can think of, though when writing him, I find myself adding 'huh' to the ends of a lot of his questions.
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
Whatever they speak in Avatar-verse, which is Mandarin Chinese, I think. He's fluent in that, and I don't think he knows anything else.
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
No.
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
Yes, he's a very good impromptu speaker. He's used to having to give rousing speeches before a raid/battle, and congratulatory ones after a raid/battle.
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
Uh, mostly eloquent, I guess. Very straight-forward, to the point. This changes... idk when he gets ragey.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
His book smarts are pretty limited (orphaned at eight, baw) but he's very street-smart and has a lot of common sense. He's had to use his wits for years to survive in the forest, and to help take care of kids younger than he is.
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
He does a good bit of both, I think! He can be plenty impulsive, when his anger or emotions get the best of him, but he says that one shouldn't rely on instinct too much.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
Hm. :|a I can see a lot of all of this in him. He thinks of himself as logical, and he definitely is, to some extent, but he can find himself being lead by his heart and his emotions and his passions. He's practical in his own way, but idealistic in that his aims can be lofty and higher than a kid in the forest should expect to attain.
4. What kind of education has the character had?
Idk, there might have been some kind of school in the village before it was destroyed. I'm going to say that he learnt most of the basics there, or from his parents. But otherwise, it's been the school of hardknocks, for him.
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
He's an expert in smoothtalk and swordfighting and hatred of the Fire Nation. I guess he's always interested in improving his technique.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
Uh extrovert I guess.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
MOOD SWINGS. I mean, for the most part he's casual and chill and laid-back. Look at how he reacts to Sokka's bitchiness, when they first met. 'Nah, it's aight, he's probably just tired.' But when something triggers him, he can go all batshit. Fire Nation, the war, firebending scum, e t c . . .
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
Suspicious or relaxed or enthusiastic, as the situation calls for. Lmao look at how he was upon meeting Zuko.
9. Is he more likely to act, or to react?
Act... but again, he does know the value of waiting for the right time to act.
10. Which is his default: fight or flight?
Fight.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
Sure. He's not really the type to make any overly stupid or vulgar jokes, but he does have a good healthy sense of humour. He's someone that likes to tease.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?
He had preeetty bad PTSD, after the village was destroyed, I think. His problem is that he didn't get a chance to deal with it; his hatred of the Fire Nation just festered and soured and grew and grew.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?
His parents burninating to death in the flames of Fire Nation glory. His encounter with Katara and the gaang, which set him on the road to change.
14. What does he fear?
Nothing!!!!!!! (He fears not being able to make a difference.)
15. What are his hopes or aspirations?
It used to be bringing down the Fire Nation. Now that that's all well and accomplished, and he's... dead, he's not really sure.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
He's not exactly proud of what he tried to do to that village, so he won't really be telling people about that.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.
He loved them a lot, like any other kid. Though I suspect he was mischievous at times and they had to come down on him a little, they never did too hard because they loved their only son. ;A; Their deaths traumatised him pretty badly. Though he lost sight of what was right and wrong for a while there, all of his burninating is done in their names. ;;
OH I might as well put my headcanon about his parents here. His father worked in the mines in their town. Jet's hookswords formerly belonged to him. He could wield them, but he hadn't done so in a long time. He was a quiet, gruff, hardworking man, who was firm, but also kind and playful, with his son. Jet's mother was an ex-soldier, an earthbender, who was sent home from the war when she received injuries that severely limited her bending. She was sweet and motherly and cheerful, and firm when she needed to be.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
Nope. Only child, I think.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
Idk, if he had any, they're dead now, welp.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his
relationships with them?
His Freedom Fighters, to some extent. He leads them, cares for them, manages them, and though he lead them astray in many ways, he did feel very responsible for them while they were all still together.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
Smellerbee and Longshot. Longhot he met when they found him alone in the ashes of his village. I have a lot of different headcanon for how he meets Smellerbee; the one where she tries to pickpocket him and gets caught, only to be recruited, is one of my favourites. They bonded because he was their leader, and they all had tragic pasts in common. The Fire Nation's cruelty brought them together. When the Freedom Fighters split up, they were the ones to come with him, so that's why I think between the three of them there was more friendship than there was a leader/follower relationship. They understood each other really well, sometimes without having to speak at all, and worked together flawlessly.
6. Does he have other close friends?
Katara and the Gaang... I guess...
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
Sure. I mean, once you're not Fire Nation scum, or someone who's exploiting other people, he's pretty chill. He won't open up immediately around randoms, but yeah.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
Family, tbh, but his family is all dead soooo.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?
Single, never married because he's like 17.
10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
Nope.
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
First crush... idk, some random pretty girl in his village. Kiddie crush. Jet the teenager really doesn't get crushes lmao. The last girl he felt some genuine attraction towards was probably Katara, but let's be honest! He was also using her at the time w e l p . . . . /steals first kisses and gives no fucks
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner?
Ffft, honestly? I don't think he's ever had a girlfriend or boyfriend or anything at this point in his life. Just a couple bouts of sex and lots of casual making out and romantic encounters and flirting and the like. He's not really looking for a relationship! Buuuut as for the qualities that he would like in a potential romantic partner... Strength and independence are big ones, though he really doesn't mind being the knight in ragtag armour once in a while. I think it would also be important for him to have someone who can understand his past and his motivation and what he went through. ALSO he likes good looking people okok.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
Nope. Having children really wasn't something that he thought about, and now it's too late for all of that. Eeeeeeeeeeexcept for when the Para babies roll around, haha. He'd be a pretty okay dad, I think.
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
Lmao Zuko. Lmao the Entire Fire Nation Because Yeup.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the
Kinsey scale?
Kinsey 2, in my book. He's more attracted to girls, but boys are fine too. Opportunism yay...
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?
I guuuuuess sex is relatively important to him? I mean, he thinks about it as much the average teenage boy, or maybe a little less. I don't think he's a virgin (probably lost it to some random Earth Kingdom girl when he was 15-ish) and I also don't think he's all that interested in getting any right now. But like if it comes up (haha) or a willing opportunity presents itself, sure, he's gonna go for it.
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
"Let's do it. And I will keep the stalk of wheat in my mouth the whole time." idkidkidk
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (
zodiac of
choice) sign? How well does he fit type?
IDK. My headcanon birthday for him is December 1st, which makes him a Sagittarius in western astrology. Looking at
this site, a couple aspects of it fit him, but not many? On the positive side, he sure is freedom-loving, good-humoured, and straightforward. On the negative side... yes, he can be blindly optimistic and careless sometimes. Everything else... ehh.
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?
Uh neither????????? Or idk he might be a little spiritual in that he... believes that the spirit world exists? Wow uh let's just call him agnostic.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
Oh boy. Okay, I imagine his parents taught him the basics of right and wrong when he was a kid, like most other kids. And he learnt all the basic 'do not hurt others', 'bad people get punished' et cetera. Well, then his parents died, and it kinda of sort of traumatised him a lot, and he was pretty consumed with by his pain, his desire to avenge them, and his utter hatred of the Fire Nation. Stopping them became the main priority in his life, to a pretty high degree. So while he did have a pretty standard ethics system, bringing down the Fire Nation, at whatever costs, took precedence. And yeah, from there it's pretty easy to see how he got from point A to point 'ready to flood out an entire village of innocents to wipe out the Fire Nation troops within'. He's not that guy anymore, but I think his code of morals/ethics can still be compromised if he's triggered in a significant way.
I answered the question, right?
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
Indifferent, sometimes curious?
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
ALL FIRE NATION PEOPLE ARE PLUNDERING DOUCHEBAG SCUM AND NEED TO GO DOWN. It is pretty irrational; he's condemning an entire nation of people because of what happened to him. Buuuut what happened to him was pretty traumatising so. :|a
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
Broke. I guess this doesn't apply in Paradisa; he lives in a magic castle, and doesn't need money for much, even if he doesn't use the wishes often.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
Before his parents died, I suppose they were lower middle class, but comfortable and not really lacking. After the village was gone, he... had nothing, obviously. So he's had to work really hard to make a living for himself and the other freedom fighters (gathering, stealing, whatever) using his wits and his smarts and his determination. He knows the value of fighting to get what you need.
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?
In canon, he lived in a giant sprawling network of treehouses in a beautiful forest with a host of other kids/freedom fighters. It wasn't majestic or anything, but it was comfortable, well hidden, and served their purposes well. In Paradisa, he lives in the room that the castle provides, but I imagine he sleeps out on the roof/in the forest whenever he feels like it. He and Smellerbee built a mini-treehouse out in the woods the last time they were here; he's going to find it soon, thanks to his buddy Dro. I imagine the treehouse at home was run pretty efficiently, because they were a gang of little militants and fighters, but there was probably no small amount of chaos, because they were all kids. In Paradisa his room is pretty much in the same state as it was when he came.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
He has no money lmao.
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?
At home, he had no real 'job'. He was the leader of the Freedom Fighters. Yes, he was pretty good at it, for a kid who grew up in a forest. For him, it wasn't a matter of whether he enjoyed it or not; he saw it as something that he HAD to do, for his kingdom, and for the memory of his parents. He lost sight of what was right and wrong for a while back there, but... I can't imagine what he would do with his life, otherwise. He'll be doing it as much as he can, in Paradisa.
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?
Lmao wow uh... hitting on people and training? Jet didn't get to have a normal childhood; he didn't get the leisure of having leisurely pursuits. But I imagine he'd like a good sporty game as well as the next guy.
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
He grew up as an orphan ekeing out a life in the woods! Sooo... he eats what he can get, and he's not picky about it. He's probably used to having to ration out stuff and eat frugally as well, whenever they couldn't forage enough or get enough game. He would've probably drunk alcohol in canon, if he ever got a hold of it, just to have the experience.
