Not a good start to my day...

I was surfing the web when I shouldn't have during my 7:30a class this morning and came across a front page headline about a Chico student from Pleasant Hill dying from a hazing. When I looked closer, I saw the name: Matthew Carrington.

I clicked on the link to read more. I couldn't beleive it. It was the Matt Carrington I worked with and hung out with during my early days with Century over at the dome. The last time I saw him was at the Pleasant Hill 16 opening.

Matt was one of the assitants while I started at Pleasant Hill 5 back in 2001. He was part of the group of guys I worked with that I could actually hang out with outside of work. On my first day working in Milpitas, he and Jeff came up to my line and surprised me, then went to visit their former (my then current) GM, Robert.

Matt was one of the most laid back, cool, and caring guys I ever worked with. He was a shy guy, but once you got him to open up to you, you would find out what a great guy he is.

The fraternity he was pledging for apparently had been expelled by the university and had its charter revoked. This meant they could do whatever the fuck they wanted with thier pledges because they weren't under any University or fraternity sanctions. They were in sense a renegade fraternity, a private club.

When I dug up more articles, I came across a picture of Matt. At that point, I had to leave the classroom. After a few minutes, I went back in, but could not stay on task during class.
