I met Hoyt Fortenberry tonight. Well, the actor who plays him on True Blood, whose name I still do not know. Spoke with him briefly, as I was working the door for an industry party. He was polite and gentlemanly with the ladies he accompanied, and very nice to me when I got confused about the forms he needed to fill out. I was volunteering and had no idea there were forms. Ha!

I fretted while he wrote. Should I tell him I liked his show? Should I pretend I had no idea who he was? No one else seemed to know who he was. Or did they? Was everyone else being cool, and would I look like a moron?

But, I decided, since I'd been complimenting people on their clothes and hair all night, it wouldn't hurt to say something to the guy. Besides, when have I ever been cool?

When he finished his paperwork, I thanked him and said, "By the way, I love your show."

He looked very surprised, then pleased, and thanked me so graciously you'd have thought he was a nobody. He said how much he loved being on it, and I told him it was a great cast, and he agreed. Then he said, glowing, that they had started filming again. I told him that was excellent, and I couldn't wait to see it, and then I got back to work.

It wasn't a horrible breach to pay him a compliment, and he seemed like the kind of guy who really deserved one. Never hurts to tell someone they do good work, right?

Anyway, he was incredibly gracious and kind. That's nice to report.
