Title - What's Necessary
Prompt - 085 - She
Word Count - 1001
Summary - Kara teaches a lesson

The corridors sounded with the echoing thumps of her boots, that seemed to match the beating of her racing heart. The water from Helo had helped and so did the cooler temperatures in the ship, but Kara could feel the tell tale pain and tightness of sun burnt skin on her face. She felt sluggish and hot, but she gritted her teeth against it. There would be time later to worry about how Kat had injured her. The important thing was putting a stop to the sick game Kat was playing. For Felix's sake.

Kat was going to pay, she had every intention of seeing to that, but Kara knew she would fail if she didn't find them quickly. Felix was, in his way, a very controlled man. Once he let go of that control, she wasn't certain he would simply stop. She had asked around, discreetly after Felix had pounded the hell out of Kat, and Colonel Tigh of all people had given her a book about the SRT units. It was like brainwashing, what the SRT did. By the time they finished the training, they were killing machines. They followed orders and considered their orders and mission to be the only thing worth considering. If Felix thought the mission was to torture her location out of Kat, he wasn't going to stop until the mission was completed. Which Kat deserved, but Felix didn't.

The frakking water tanks, she thought. Kat had invested a lot of crazy energy into her plan for revenge. The problem was that the water storage area was huge. She opened the hatch door and looked. Tanks, and catwalks, and no real walls. The sounds echoed. She heard her boots stomping on the floor. She stopped and listened. It was silent for a long moment and then she heard the sound of a smack, of skin striking skin. No crying out but that didn't surprise her. Kat was probably in the thrall of a psychotic, drugged episode, and even without that factor, Kara knew that Kat was tough. She followed the sound.

Sure enough, she started to hear the sound of Felix's voice, muffled and indistinct, followed by Kat shrieking something. She followed it, but the tanks made it confusing. Think, she told herself, as she ran down the catwalk. Then she heard a stomp, and cracking noise.

"I think that was all five of your toes," Felix said conversationally.

"Frak you!" Kat's voice was shrill and angry.

"Where is Kara?" That was followed by silence.

"Everyone will hate you. They'll know what you really are. You'll never escape it." Kat's voice took on a deadly intent tone that Kara had never heard from her before.

"You're quite the amateur psychologist." There was another stomp, and cracking, and that time she heard a whimper. "Let me explain something. For the first time, maybe in my entire life, certainly in my adult life, I really don't care what anyone thinks. If I have to break every bone in your body, you will tell me where Kara is. You asked me if I loved Kara, if I would die for her, and I said I would. Do you *really* think that beating you to death and dealing with the consequences frightens me? It doesn't, Kat. Because it's *necessary*. You make it necessary, and if I have learned anything about myself... Doing what's necessary doesn't bother me at all."

And that was where she had to stop it. It alleviated her fears, hidden and open, but she shoved aside what he said, what he felt, for later. The important thing, Kara thought fiercely, was to stop him. She wasn't in danger, it wasn't necessary to go further than he had. He would be fine... if she stopped it now.

"Felix!" she shouted. Her voice reverberated around the tanks. "Stop! I'm ok! That stupid bitch frakked her plan up!" She rounded one of the tanks and found Felix standing over Kat on the catwalk. He was in the regular duty uniform, it looked so odd on him, she would have laughed if his expression hadn't been that cold, stony eyed look she had only seen on Caprica. Kat was on the metal grill floor, her left hand handcuffed to the catwalk railing. Her face was bloody and her eyes were wide with shocked devastation. Kara ignored her. She stepped closer. "Felix, I'm all right."

"You don't look all right," he said worriedly. He took a step forward, his eyes seeming to light up, the coldness leaving his face. Then he grinned. "I was supposed to rescue you. To make us even." He took another step and then whirled around. Kara saw Kat flick something with her free hand and suddenly Felix was clutching his side. Blood seeped around his fingers. "You frakking bitch...." he said as he slid to the floor. A knife, Kara realized in shock. Kat had thrown a knife and Felix was bleeding from it.

Kat looked at her and grinned evilly. "I still win, you bitch."

"No, you don't. You're done." Kara pulled the gun out and fired it into Kat's face. Then she tossed the gun and dropped to Felix's side. There was a lot of blood. "Ok, ok, this isn't bad," she said as she pressed his hand against the wound. She looked at him intently. "You have to keep your hand here. I need to get help."

"Listen," he said softly. She did, and realized that there were more booted feet running on the catwalks. Felix smiled in a pained way. "You know Kara, ever since we started frakking... I always end up hurt. So you have to promise something."

"I will, but you're gonna be fine," she said quickly. Where the frak is Lee, she thought worriedly. There was too much blood.

Felix closed his eyes. "The next time... I want to do that thing I like. Where I'm on the bottom. There's ways...."

Despite it all, she started to laugh.
