I love Bright Eyes.

Ok. So I went and saw bright eyes at the boulder theatre this past monday with Willie Mason and The Sons and Daughters. This was hands down one of the best shows I have been to in a long time. This was my first show at the boulder theatre, and I can see it easily becoming one of my favorite venues. Its about the same size as my beloved Ogden Theatre...and it is decorated simply but elegantly. It is right by the pearl street mall, so while most of boulder is faux hippie bullshit, this is my favorite area of the town so that is quite cool. There are no barriers between the audience and the stage, which is a huge plus. Anyways, on to the show.

Willie Mason: Very cool singer songwriter guy. He is very folky and his style is simple but his lyrics and songs were very well written. Definitely check him out.

The Sons and Daughters: Think indie folk interpol...but with Karen O and Satan on the vocals. Sound weird? It is. But it is very very good. they are all kick ass performers and they had some really good hooks. I will buy their cd if I ever have money again.

Bright Eyes: The cool thing about this tour is that he was playing mostly old stuff. Since I am a rookie Bright Eyes fan, I only knew a couple of songs, but you have to appreciate when artists do tours like this. It made me want to get the rest of his stuff (but there is soooooo much I dont have). He was very good at interacting with the crowd and was very grateful of the turnout (on his digital ash tour stop in denver I guess he was an angry drunk, this time he was a happy drunk. Go figure). He seemed to be having a lot of fun, but he is an intense performer to be certain. I think he did a good job organizing this tour, everyone seemed to really be good friends with each other between the bands and otherwise (his harpist was from Cocoa Rosie...eat your heart out Ms. Isernia).

Overall: a great show. Had I been a bigger bright eyes fan, I could even see this being better than the interpol show. I definitely enjoyed myself a lot.
