it's a remake life

In the past week I've watched four different remake/re-imagining of earlier shows. There really isn't an original thought left in hollywood, that or the people who make shows now are so caught up in reliving their glory days, or their youth, they can only imagine shows that are the mirror of those days.

First I finally saw the remake of Point Break. I loved the original because I love Patrick Swayze and have a soft spot for Keanu. (I am an F. B. I. agent) Anyway, it wasn't bad. It was different enough I think that it was it's own movie. Or really, like fanfic of the movie. The extreme sports were very fun to watch and the relationship between Utah and Bhodi was nice and sub-textual. Plus it had explosions and chase scenes. So, all the things required for a decent movie in my mind.

(hmm, that just occurred to me, I really enjoy fanfic, even AU and AR so of course I wouldn't mind remakes so much if looked at through that lens)

Then I watched the series premiere of the Lethal Weapon tv show. It was and wasn't the movie condensed down to to an hour program. I really like the Riggs character, but then again I have a soft spot for damaged characters. I also like cop shows, so we have a winning formula. I'm so shallow :)

Last night Brother and I watched the series premiere of MacGyver. I admit, I didn't watch it when it was first on, so all I know about it is what is in the collective unconscious, but that seems to be enough. It was a nice action packed show with the usual amount of hand-wavy required. Though the text over when he's improvising is a bit annoying. I'll keep watching for the time being, if for nothing else than my fascination with what the heck color are Lucas Till's eyes.

Lastly I caught the season premiere of Hawaii 5-O. Which at this point I hadn't thought of as a remake of an older show for awhile till the sequence in the chapel with the Jack Lord cgi, which while I get it, was weird. (I see they're gonna still shove the whole Steve Catherine relationship down our throats) It was a pretty good episode and I liked that Steve finally seemed to show some growth in his attitude toward Danny, not enough and hopefully not too late, but the writers maybe have acknowledged there's been enough assholery going on.

Oh! I did watch a non-remake movie this week too. Now You See Me 2. Yeah, a sequel. I did say there's nothing new coming out of hollywood, didn't I? I really liked the first one and the second one was just as enjoyable. I love all the magic tricks and the chases and the action. What can I say, I'm easy to please when it comes to my visual entertainment.

And now it's time to be off to the comic shop for my weekly dose of geek. Last week I picked up a nice chunk of Teen Titans from the 80's. Hopefully this week I'll have time to read them. Here's hoping for zero customers! lol (but big sales, I'm sure there's a way to get both!)
