Notes from Peru Trip
The last time I updated was May 2022. Here are quick notes from my Peru trip that I thought I posted and then thought I lost and then rediscovered, with an end of year update to follow.
We began the trip on my last day of work, Friday September 30th. I left immediately from my farewell party for my last day at UCB!
Transfer in Miami, Quick layover in Lima before the flight to Cuzco. Stayed at Hotel Atoq San Blas, tried coca tea, experienced extensive altitude sickness, and walking around town, met alpacas. Tried Alpaca steak and cuy inkaterra.
Sunday, October 2nd
Morning pickup by Domingo and (unexpectedly) private tour/visit to Sacred Valley, Moray, salt flats. Getting fleeced on fake alpaca gear. Lunch in Urubamba then train with gorgeous views to Aguas Calientes. Worked on my publication. Stay in hotel Tara, and dinner and ice cream.
Monday, October 3rd
545am line to fix entry tickets for Machu Picchu, met cool travelers. Amazing views and communing with Llamas. Took the train back, got to Palacios late, beautiful hotel and pisco cocktails at the bar.
Tuesday, October 4th
Early morning pickup for rainbow mountain and altitude sickness. Snow cleared at the summit and cross fit daddy. Terrible Japanese dinner, then room service and showed Mark Legend of Korra, which he liked.
Wednesday, October 5th
Amazing breakfast with harpist, then flight to Lima. Check in at Iberostar, then walking to Lamarco shopping center and jw Marriott to overlook the Malecon. Walking around Miraflores to only gay bar then delicious cheap dinner at Restaurante Contraste, but forgot credit card. Next morning conducted interview then delicious breakfast with Queen avocado fried at Che Cha Miraflores. Hotel, nap, walk to San Isidro with the BEST burger at Juicy Lucy, Parrot Bar, and incredible tasting menu at Astrid y Gaston (we met Astrid!), then picked up credit card and back to hotel.
Friday October 7th
Spa day, then tasting menu again at beautiful restaurant Kjolle with delicious purple bread, despite being so full from previous tasting menu. Then quick nap and 5 o'clock drinks at Carnaval. Many many drinks and befriending Canadian couple, dilf2. Antecuchos local place, walk home, brief nap, then gay club night.
Saturday October 8th
Big hangover, crappy Cafe, walking around and securing souvenirs, then coffee and best burger in lima, which wasn't as good as juicy lucy. Then airport lounge, work, barely sleeping on flight and barely making connection in FLL.
