4/6/18: Just watched Mary Poppins with the kids for the first time. I haven’t seen it in probably twenty years or more...I’d forgotten a lot, but I remembered all the songs! The kids liked it a lot - especially the chimney sweep sequence. Brock is leaping around the house now, trying to mimic their sweet moves on the couch (alas).
Also, it’s snowing. So I am listening to Christmas music on Pandora. Makes me feel slightly better. Snow away! My cold frame is full of kale, spinach, and broccoli seedlings, my milk jug greenhouses are out on the front porch, and my indoor shelf has a fine crop of peppers and basil and cosmos seedlings. Spring will come, even if I have to get out there with a hair dryer and thaw the ground myself.
Gwennie wants a Harry Potter themed bday this year. Be still, my heart! Oh the fun of giving in to the Nerd Within and making wands, floating candles, and chcolate frogs to my heart’s content. I’m not quite up to Mrs Weasley’s standard - no snitch-shaped cake - but the pinata is a snitch. Also I’m making frozen butterbeer (aka cream soda and ice cream floats). My only regret is that most of the guests aren’t fellow fans and won’t be able to fully appreciate the fun...ah well, Gwen and I will enjoy ourselves thoroughly!
4/10/18: The twins were throwing paper airplanes around their room this morning and called me in to help when one got stuck on their fancy dresses, hanging up on the back of the door. Once the plane was retreived they decided the best way to keep it from happening again was for them to wear the dresses, so they’ve spent this perfectly ordinary Tuesday running around in velour and fake satin. And why not?
4/11/18: Saw little reddish pink rhubarb nubs peeking out of the ground today! AND heard frogs in the pond. There’s hope.
4/13/18: That’s it. I’m calling it: spring is here. I don’t care if it’s only one warm(ish) day and it’ll be 18 degrees out tonight. It’s 54 and sunny right now, warm enough for the kids to be running around the puddle-wonderful backyard in their underpants. I planted two plum trees. I also uncovered my lavender plants (classily protected from extreme temps by means of cardboard and some planks to keep said cardboard from blowing away) and THEY MADE IT they are ALIVE and it is VERY EXCITING. I pinched off some leaves and smelled them and the lavendery goodness short-circuted my brain so that I sat down on the garden path and cried like a baby for a solid minute. Spring is here, and it is a miracle.
Also the crocuses are blooming.
