Series/Fandom; No More Heroes
Age; Twenty-seven
Gender; Male
Species; Human
Sexuality; Heterosexual
Appearance; Travis Touchdown is pretty average looking, if not for a weird sense of fashion. Physically, he is tall, slender, and a bit on the lanky side. He’d almost be considered scrawny, but for the tiniest bit of muscle definition - fruit of several hours training under his Master Thunder Ryu.
He has sharp features to match his harshly styled sideburns and typically keeps his hair styled in some semblance of a faux-hawk. His hair is likely the primary focus of his attention every morning, as he uses an inordinate amount of gel to make it gravity defying and give it an anime-esque feel. His grey-blue eyes are constantly hidden behind a pair of yellow aviators - an unusual choice of eyewear to be sure, as yellow lenses are reserved for ranged weapon use.
So far as clothing, Travis is a t-shirt and jeans kind of guy. He favours a pair of straight seamed jeans with fashionable tears at the knees. He wears a brown canvas belt with them, then a second, leather one over top, this one with pouches. The pockets are fully of random items, such as spare batteries for his beam katana or half eaten boxes of Pocky.
While he literally has a closet full of t-shirts, his preferred garment is a lavender shirt with a red studded collar. On the front, it has a print of the logo from his favourite anime, Pure White Lover Bizarre Jelly. It features the main three characters, Strawberry, Blueberry and Cranberry, in their signature ‘moe’ outfits - it also matches the obscene amount of merchandise that clutters Travis’ motel apartment.
Accessory-wise, Travis tends to keep it pretty simple. He’s got a pair of red and white Nike Air Force Ones, which he manages to keep in fairly decent condition. On his left wrist, he has a Santa Destroy sweatband, and wears a brown leather glove on his right hand, to protect against the heat while wielding his weapon.
Probably the signature of the entire outfit is Travis’ well-worn red leather jacket. It looks as though it’s near the end of its days, as its dirty and scuffed, but it’s doubtful he’d part with it. While it used to be brighter, the leather is now a dark stained crimson, with a panel of tiger-printed hide at the back and over the shoulders. It has a high collar and no fastening at the front; not that it matters, as he’d leave it open to show off his t-shirt anyway.
Personality; For the most part, Travis is a jerk. He is loud, obnoxious, and doesn’t know when to keep his mouth shut - or perhaps more accurately, he does know, and just chooses not to. He’s sarcastic and crude, and for the most part, quite immature. He’s certainly not a social butterfly by any stretch, and within the game, he has a total of one friend - Bishop, the guy at the video store. The guy at the video store that he is constantly stealing porn videos from, if that says anything about him.
He can be quite cruel should the situation provide, particularly when it comes to his fellow assassins. He seems to have no pity for those he has killed, or is too naive to feel remorse. During some matches, Travis will openly mock and criticize the dying, and prefers not to waste time on idle chit chat. His methods are brutal, and he won’t hesitate to take off a limb or two before he finishes someone off.
Despite all of this, he is not entirely inhuman. Travis is capable of being understanding, should the situation call for it. There are times early on in his career that he seems to almost regret his actions, claiming that the ‘killing starts to feel normal’ - while it’s never directly said, one can guess from this that he did not always feel that way. This has all but vanished by the time the game begins, but there are still times when this compassion can show.
Perhaps the biggest exception to every rule for Travis is women. Travis has never had a real relationship with a woman - in fact, he is still a virgin, though he is ashamed to admit it. He lacks in social skills, which is shown quite clearly in his encounters with Sylvia - thought it doesn't stop him from trying. He has a hard time killing female assassins and will avoid doing so when possible. They somehow manage to bring out his rare sensitive side.
He is quite eager to prove himself - one of his main motivations as an assassin, besides the money, is to find someone who can challenge him. He gets angry when this chance is taken from him - even if it makes life easier for him. He would rather be allowed the chance to fight for himself, risking loss, so that he may say that he accomplished it for himself.
As an otaku, Travis is in love with the idea of Japanese culture and is well-versed in modern popular culture. He will commonly make references to current trends, and longs to be Japanese himself (or at least enough to try and rip off their culture). He had a Master in Santa Destroy who he was quite dedicated to, until his death.
Abilities/Strengths; While Travis has no real superhuman abilities, he is a skilled fighter. He is fast enough to dodge bullets, and can take large amounts of damage to little effect. Grenades and bullets only slow him down, and a fist through the chest was not enough to kill him.
When fighting with his beam katana, Travis can actually block bullets and take limbs off with ease. The blade can cut through most things, though it can be deflected with normal metal swords. His style is unusual, as it is a combination of self-taught methods, correspondence courses, and watching several videos. He is capable of learning new techniques through visual learning.
While he fights best when wielding his beam katana, Tsubaki Mk-III, he’s also a former-wrestler, and adept in hand to hand combat.
Perhaps most unusual, Travis does not fear. He maintains that claim several times through the game, and it seems to hold true. He never seems to worry for his life, nor does he have anyone else to fear for. It makes him even more dangerous, as he will run headfirst into things.
Weaknesses; Just as it is a strength, Travis’ lack of thinking can get him in over his head. He’s confident to a fault, and has little regard for his own mortality - he’s even swung his sword at an incoming bullet and blown himself up, just out of sheer thrill of the fight.
His social skills are sorely lacking, and he manages to piss a lot of people off. His sour attitude and huge ego don’t make him the most agreeable person.
Notable Possessions; Travis’ most notable possession is his beam katana. It is essentially a light saber, but don’t tell him that - he prefers the sound of ‘beam katana.’ It has a rechargeable battery inside it, so it will not run out - it’s charge by shaking (in a rather questionable manner).
He has an extra battery in one of his pockets, along with various scraps of junk food. Other than that, he only has the clothes on his back, the sunglasses on his face, and an ego that can crush a small child.
History; Travis Touchdown is a resident of Santa Destroy, California. His parents died when he was young, leaving him alone in the world. He once had a love named Jeane, though she too disappeared - he keeps a photograph of the mysterious girl on his table.
He lives in the rundown Motel No More Heroes with his cat, Jeane. The motel suite has two bedrooms, both of which are covered in various merchandise. Travis has a strong love of things from Japan, especially anime - basically, he is a stereotypical otaku. He collects figurines, posters, porn, and anything else he can get his hands on, usually from his favourite series Pure White Lover Bizarre Jelly. However, he soon discovered that this was not the cheapest hobby he could have.
He worked several odd jobs, ranging from lawn mowing to scorpion extermination, in order to earn some extra cash. None of them were good jobs, and none of them paid well... Not good for an anime fan in desperate need of merchandise. While browsing an online auction site, Travis bid on -and won - a beam katana. He decided to use the weapon and become an assassin in order to earn the extra money he needed.
One night, he met a strange and very attractive woman at the death match bar - he decided to play the role of the gentleman (or maybe just the guy who wants to get laid) and bought her a drink. One drink turned into Travis waking up with very little memory of the previous evening. He only knew one thing - he had been asked to make a hit on a man known as "the Drifter." Certainly didn't seem too hard - at least, not to someone as skilled at killing as Travis. And he was right - he managed to beat the other man easily.
Once the fight was over, the woman from the previous night appeared once more, congratulating him for killing the eleventh ranked assassin in the United Assassins Association. Her name was Sylvia Christel - she claimed to be a representative for the UAA. As her men cleaned up the mess, she invited Travis to attempt to kill the ten assassins ranked above him. She told him to think it over, and left him with the address for the next mark.
Armed with his beam katana, Travis' desire for a challenge and money brought him to Death Metal's mansion. Like Helter Skelter, Death Metal fell easily to Travis' blade, raising him to the tenth rank. What he did not realize was that this move had trapped him in the competition. He was now in the top ten ranks, and a target for anyone who wished to progress - Sylvia had tricked him.
He was angry, but he begrudgingly decided to continue his ascension of the ranks. The next few battles went through without a hitch - he had no problem killing Dr. Peace or Destroyman. He refused to kill the Eighth Rank, Shinobu - she was still young, and he claimed that she would present a better challenge to him at a later date. He still moved through at a decent pace, until he reached the Sixth Ranked Match.
Holly Summers was the second woman Travis had faced in the competition, but he'd not been made to kill the first. He had no problem fighting her - it was a tough fight, with Holly's missiles and speed. However, when it came time to strike the killing blow, he was not able to do it. He wanted to spare her, and in the process, dishonoured her. She put a grenade in her mouth and ended her own life. Travis was hurt and upset - mostly with himself. He'd failed as an assassin and only managed to hurt the woman by not striking the final blow.
His next battle was equally eventful - more because it didn't happen. When he met with the Fifth Ranked assassin, the other man was killed before Travis could do anything. The interloper was a mysterious man by the name of Henry. He was strangely friendly for a man that Travis had only just met, and wielded an energy blade very similar to his own. But once again, fate intervened - Sylvia blew the whistle on the fight and Henry disappeared. With Letz Shake - the Fifth Rank - dead, Travis progressed to the next rank, angry and without a battle.
Sylvia invited Travis on a date, which also happened to be his fourth ranked match, against a magician named Harvey. While the battle itself was uneventful, the change in the relationship between the two was anything but - after the fight, the two kissed for the first time, in what was likely Travis’ first kiss ever. Unless you count his pillow.
Prior to his third ranked match with Speed Buster, Travis’ master, Thunder Ryu fought and was killed by the old woman, thanks to the distraction of Travis’ cat. While he attempted to interfere, Ryu told him not to, and claimed he had nothing left to teach him. Using the man’s death as motivation, Travis easily overcame his fear of killing women - he sliced her head from her shoulders while looking her in the eye, without any hesitation.
As he neared the first rank, Sylvia became more and more distant, no longer showing up at the end of his matches, nor phoning him. Annoyed, Travis called a number that he had been left with on a previous occasion, reaching Sylvia’s mother - who informed him that the UAA was all a façade. Her daughter desired extra money, and had created the game as a way of earning it - by means of his entry fees. Of course, by this point, he’d already killed hundreds, if not more… There was no turning back.
Moving on to the final battle against a man named Dark Star, Travis is reminded of why he is fighting. The assassin claimed to be his father, an obvious lie, but he knew things about the past that even Travis could not remember. Jeane, the girl he’d loved, was the one responsible for the death of his parents. However, before he could learn anymore, the woman appeared and silenced Dark Star.
The pair fight, though not until Jeane reveals that she is, in fact, Travis’ half sister. Having been raped and abused by their shared father, she’d made it her life goal to kill him and the woman she’d been abandoned for, right before Travis’ eyes. While the memory had been suppressed, he’d told Sylvia about his desire for revenge while drunk - and in turn, she had arranged the fights in order to help him.
Jeane came close to killing him - and would have, had it not been for Shinobu’s interference. Having been saved, Travis took the opportunity to kill Jeane, ending her suffering as well as his own need for revenge.
Hoping that with his rank one status that things would settle down, Travis is sorely mistaken - after being attacked in his bathroom, he is saved once again by Henry. Of course, Sylvia had warned him that after becoming a ranked assassin that he would constantly be hunted, but after her mother claimed it to be a money grab…
Meeting the mysterious man in the parking lot of his motel, Travis duels him, but the two are fairly evenly matched. As they lock swords, Henry then claims to not only be his twin brother, but to be Sylvia’s husband of ten years. However, before they are allowed to finish their battle, they are abruptly cut off, and the winner is unknown.
