Galileo \g(a)-li-leo\ as a boy's name is of Italian origin, and the meaning of Galileo is "from Galilee".
Here's June's "My Life in Pictures." There's only five pictures, but that's only because I had to take several out due to confidentiality issues. Ohohoho.
I'm not unaccustomed to accompanying my mother to Chinese supermarkets. I've done it since I was six, and there's really not much that can freak me out. However, a decapitated fish head that is still breathing does make my heart jump a beat. Its gills were gasping for breathe, and its fills were flapping every thirty seconds or so. For the next hour or so, I seriously considered being a vegan.
One of my culinary dreams is to bake a pound cake that is comparable to Sara Lee's. Some might argue that pre-made frozen desserts cannot comparable to homemade fresh ones, but that's because they've never had Sara Lee. As Liz Lemon said in "Gavin Volure" of 30 Rock, "Also, don't over think it. Sara Lee. Frozen. Unbelievable." (I'm starting to think that it doesn't bode well for my future that I keep quoting Liz Lemon. I think it's entirely possible that sometime in my late thirties, I'm going to pick a sandwich over a guy.)
Occasionally, there will be times when some books catch my eye by virtue of the title. Considering that I've wanted to be a social climber since I was a child, this is one of them.
There are a lot of books that are on my list to read. Much of them are European classics, and more than half of them were not written in English. I happen to be a strict originalist, so it would be my fondest wish to be able to read those books in the original language. For instance, I would love to read Madame Bovary in its original French. And of course, as pictured above, I would love to read Doctor Zhivago by Boris Pasternak in the original Russian. Then again, if I could read Russian, I would also read Vladimir Nabokov in its original Russian.
While waiting for my eye appointment, I had an hour to spare, so I ended up inside a Goodwill. At first, I looked at books and handbags, but it got boring, so I started looking at their book selection. It wasn't a particularly big Goodwill, so its selection was at beat mediocre. The only two books I found worthy of my attention were these two. At first, I picked up Twilight, and for a while, I was wondering whether I should break my vow of never reading about sparkly vampires. Then, I found The Best American Erotica 2003, and I browsed that book to see what kind of kinky trash it would have. Even if I've never read Twilight, I think it was a pretty damn good choice to pick kink over sparkly vampires.
