Well, off to some good news for today...
It's not like my geek-dar is severely limited to Johnny's stuff, American comic books, Gunpla assembly, blogging, procrastinating on blogging and more Johnny's stuff (yes, all in that order) but I do have room for comic book-to-film adaptations. \(@_@)/ And what better way to enjoy, develop and appreciate that 'hobby' than to watch Iron Man 2 next weekend. The
trailer had so much stuff going for this sequel that I can't believe that they actually went through with adding another metal superhero to the mix - War Machine. So I'm pretty much looking forward to how Jon Favreau (one of my fave directors as of 2008) will envision how the film series will play from hereon out. Of course, he's also thinking about where to fit the Avengers angle somewhere along the line. So it's a challenge I know he can handle, i.e. unless if Hollywood execs and actors alike don't get in the way and hamper his vision, because he is one director that can still make a superhero action movie a faithful adaptation and even make it witty and funny. I've been a fan of Robert Downey Jr. since Chaplin and Don Cheadle (Traffic and the Ocean's series) so I hope their on-screen chemistry works out fine in this sequel. Terrence Howard was not that big of a loss but I was hoping some other actor would have been cast in Jim Rhodes' shoes for the films. I'm also worried that the series might hit a plot plateau and erring redundancies along the way since Tony Stark's character opted to out himself as Iron Man in the last film. This would leave the writers little to improve on the characters in the next films of the series (if ever they're still going to make one). It would have been better if they had just kept Iron Man's identity a secret for at least one film and reveal that in the next film. But nah, Hollywood has a way of brushing off fan's comments just as Johnny's brushes off mine or even other fan's comments. Hehe. I'm just ranting people so don't take it to heart. And rebooting a series seems to be a trend nowadays so I'm worried that the current Marvel line of film adaptations will be using the Ultimates series' story lines rather than the original ones laid down by Stan Lee and company. I think I'm being overly paranoid so I guess I'll have to reserve judgment until I see the movie. There's also an upcoming 12-episode Iron Man
anime premiering in Japan this coming October. It promises to be a good piece of mecha entertainment this coming autumn.
So I'll leave you guys with a favorite screen cap from the first Iron Man film. This was around the part where Tony Stark makes his speech about keeping-the-peace-through-his-company's-weapons. His lines here still echo in my head whenever I recall one of Downey's many samples of repartee throughout the film.
