Its Football Time
Well espn.com, football tonight, and even the flyer liar have had some midseason award things for the NFL so I decided to hop on the band wagon.
Thus far
-League MVP: Ladanian Tomlinson, without LT there's no way the Chargers are in any kind of striking position at a playoff spot in the AFC. He is the only thing that's counter balancing the Chargers inability to put teams away. And seriously he juked Ty Law a 11 year veteran so badly Law almost fell on his ass
-Offensive Player of the Year: LT see above
-Defensive Player of the Year: Corey Simon. Talk about no respect, Corey Simon gets dwarfed in a defense where all people talk about are DEs Dwight Freeney, Robert Mathis, and the emerging LB Cato June. Corey Simon came to the Colts after being released from his franchise player tag by the Eagles and quite frankly from my point of view, without Corey Simon, we'd be seeing no where near this dominance out of the Colts. I'm sure Montae Reagor and Larry Tripplett are fine DTs but they just didnt draw the attention that Corey Simon does.
-Rookie of the Year: Kyle Orton...hands down. If anyone had told me at the beginning of the season that the Bears would be on top of the NFC North at 5-3 with the rest of the division lurking 2 games under .500 or worse I would have laughed in your face. Granted the Bears have a fantastic defense, but as the like millionth starting QB in the last 5 years the Bears may have found a solid starter in Kyle Orton.
-Most suprising team: Broncos, I don't know how Mike Shannahan did it but he turned a bunch of Cleveland Brown rejects into a sound defensive line. Where in the world did Jake Plummer come from??? Right now he's sporting a 4-1 TD to interception ratio and the 7th best passer rating in the league. Not only did I not have the Broncos not making the playoffs I thought that the Chargers would run hog wild all over that division.
-Most disappointing team: Another tough one, but I gotta go with the Vikings...the ravens massively disappointing too, but the Vikings have just collapsed over and over.
