I've been shot...

Dec 17, 2009 21:35

I show up for the appointment a good 30 minutes early. Which is both good and bid, since the Doc is 30 minuted late getting in.

It's _incredibly_ re-assuring when you the first thing you hear from the doc about to jab deep into your spine, as you're laying on your stomach, shirtless, 'Man, I'm having one of _those_ days'. Oy... She did the shots. The first one's a local, the second one is the big one.

If you've ever been with me, you know how I handle shots and needles in general. It's a mental thing. It is also a willpower thing that kept me from clenching totally up when the big needle started going in, area being deadened or not. Well, Willpower and not wanting a needle broken off inside me. :)

I received no less than 3 stories as to what my after surgery condition was going to be, from 'Don't do nothing for 24 hours', to 'Eh, take the rest of the day off', and finally, 'People come in, and bang, done in 15 minutes and back to work'. It wasn't quite that easy, but better than the others.

And I was told to fast 8 hours before, no food, no drink, including water. Then I was told I could drink 'Clear Liquids' up to 2 hours before the event. Then, when I'm there, I'm told that's only if I'm getting put under, I'm just getting a local, I can eat and drink if I want... Aargh!

It hurt really badly at first. I swear to God, the steroids in the shot felt like a _blade_ running down my spine inside my body. Within an hour though, and after having gotten some (okay, a bunch) of food, I feel pretty dang good. It may take 2-5 days to fully work, but I'm doing good right now.

I'll try to keep you updated. If you're curious, you can always call me!

Take care,

Ranger Drakeson
