After an actual decent cliffhanger (Seriously, why wasn't THIS the cliffhanger episode instead of the boring one?) the three park Rangers morph (and Tanya gets to say it, which is seriously so awesome) and Adam temporarily defeats the monster by throwing water on himCassie and TJ have come to Kat's rescue and they are so ridiculously awesome, I can ( Read more... )

Yeah, after this episode I was done professionally with Power Rangers for a good decade. Even discarding the way the cast who wanted to remain were dumped unceremoniously, this just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. They've been rangers for a long time and they get no real closure. The big epic hero endings and storylines are completely passed over to the new guys. Of all the clumsy, awful cast changes, this is the worst, IMO. It's a mark of lazy writers who need an entire cast to start churning out better storylines. And they get no celebration. Tommy has been a ranger for 5 years; Kim and Billy got tributes in the credits when they left. You would think the producers would at least want to celebrate Tommy "Winged Lord of the Skies" Oliver just one last time, but nothing. Even Zordon and Alpha seem more like they're celebrating the new team than saying goodbye to this one.

I will say that you couldn't ask for a better pair of people to choose as Rangers than Cassie and TJ. I don't quiiite ship them (though good fic can always sway me!), but the chemistry is there. If they went to Hogwarts, the Sorting Hat would scream "Gryffindor" before they got within a yard of it. The moment where TJ looks up and sees that Cassie came back...that's damn special. There are some teams, some characters whose chemistry hits you immediately, but there's also something great about witnessing the start of a friendship. I bought these transfers because you could see the exact moments when Kat and Tommy looked at them, felt that connection and knew who their successors should be.

Fun fact: Apparently Johnny Bosch refused to shave for his final episode.

I was fairly done with them originally the first time I watched this - I was like "WTF, WHERE IS MY ADAM???" and that may be one of the reasons that I don't like Space as much as the rest of the fandom does.

I wish they'd gotten a better send off. The only one who did get a really great one was Kim.

I am mostly over it now. But still. At least I super love the new team this time around.
