Dial 1
I am really struggling with my summer student.
She really has no personal thinking power. I feel drained. I have to do the thinking for two all the time. I just wish I could give her something to do and get her to do it. Not have to walk her through it. Quite often it would be easier of I just did it myself.
Take the incident today.
Summer Student (SS): I have been trying to fax this paper all morning for you.
m: that is odd - she just gave me a new fax number at the beginning of June. I wonder why it is not working.
SS: I dont know - I will try again.
SS: It still is not working.
Me: What does it say when you dial.
SS: I am sorry the call you have placed cannot be completed as dialed.
Me: You are dialing 1 before the long distance number arent you??
SS: Oh its long distance. I did not know that.
Me: The area code before the number is 306.....ours is 403. If it has a different number you have to call long distance.
SS: Oh so I have to dail 1 first??
Me: Yes. You have to dial 1 first for all long distance calls.
SS: Oh thats funny.
Me: Pounds head on fist over and over again.....
