Don't worry, it's only three months' worth of links

Which means pretty much everybody has already seen them, but, oh well.

If you've by any chance missed accioslash's countdown to Christmas HP art run over there and check it out, because there are some lovely drawings indeed. Favourites include Snape (oh, how I love this Snape) and McGonagall (scroll down a bit). Things you don't want to miss: Aberforth and his unidentified friend.

Speaking of funny things, this is an article on embarrassing English town names. No, really. I stole it from someone in a comment on LJ, but cannot for the life of me remember who.

Also funny: three months ago yesterday, I was saving an SPN icon to my computer under the key words "Sam and Dean peaking". Then I realised there might be a typo involved. Not that you'd be able to tell from this fanvid [Two Step by luminosity]. It looks like the perfect thing to convince people who're not yet into Supernatural of the utter slashyness of the show. Good luck explaining to them afterwards that it's a show about brothers, though. But that vid does remind me of all the reasons why I fell in love with SPN and it makes me happysigh. Also, it's very pretty.

Another beautiful vid: Red by obsessive24 [Merlin]. Recced by everyone and their dog, apparently, but I guess I'll play the flea and add my own two pennies. It's really the combination of music/lyrics/images that works for me in this. I had to watch it three times before it all came together for me (once for the images, once for the lyrics/music, and then once where I was aware of both), but oh, the lyrics work so well, here, and I love how the images fit so wonderfully into the music. And how it turns a cheesy show into something beautifully tragic. Oh, Arthur.

And while we're on the subject of Merlin (and, really, things recced by everyone everywhere): you should all go and read rageprufrock's Drastically Redefining Protocol. It doesn't even matter if you don't know the first thing about Merlin, because you don't need to. This is a contemporary AU in which Arthur is the Prince of Wales and Merlin a hapless medic and, uh, things go downhill from there. Even after it turns out there are no ninjas or rapedogs. If you love a good long romance with a healthy dose of humour and angst, you'll probably love this.

And, uh, when I was thinking of posting this a little over a month ago, I was going to rec two WIPs, but as the above is now completed, I only have one WIP to offer: In The Blood by nym777 [SGA]. I usually go for first time fic, but maybe I like this kind even better: where they're in a relationship, but they're not quite comfortable yet, where there is awkwardness and also entirely too hot smut. McKay and Sheppard are back on Earth, visiting their families and trying to heal themselves - and God, they are so fucked up. It takes a good writer to pull off this kind of angst, but Nym does it beautifully. And, yes, it's a WIP, but with over 40,000 words and counting, it'll keep you entertained for a while.

See how I smoothly transitioned from one subject to the next? Yes, I sometimes amaze myself, too. *cough* Mostly by my stupidity:

Uh, seriously, how do you set the language in Firefox? I mean, I gather it has spellcheck, and I accidentally installed the Dutch version and now it keeps underlining every word I type in neat, red lines. It's kind of driving me barmy. Or should I just uninstall it and run the British version? ETA: Or, you know, I could just switch off spellcheck. *facepalms* ETA II: Problem solved, thank you aurora_84! :o)

Stupid Question The Second: If someone had been in the dark for a while (like, say, oh, the dungeons) and they walked into a normally lit room, would you say they 'blinked in the light'? 'At the light?' 'Against' it? I want to make it clear, too, that he's not blinking against any unnaturally bright light, so I'm not sure what to go for. Also, if you wanted to speak of 'a bruised collarbone' without repeating the word 'bruise', could you speak of 'a purpled collarbone'? Or would I be committing several crimes against the English language?

In gratitude for your help (smoothly transitioning and all ;p), I offer you the song I am currently obsessed with: Between The Bars by Chris Garneau. It's an Elliott Smith cover, but I love the brittleness and the simplicity of this version. The people you've been before, that you don't want around anymore, that push and shove and won't bend to your will - I'll keep them still.
