but he really is evil now, though. you can tell from the black cape he's wearing in the trailer.

Re: Arthur, I think he's had several moments of great character growth throughout the two past series, especially, both in regards to being a good king and his attitude towards magic - the problem is that the writers seem to forget about all that growth every other episode, because their contrived plots require it. Just as their contrived plots require magic staying secret - except that's the one element that's stopping all the characters from growing into what they're supposed to be, and has effectively made proper confrontations like between Merlin and Morgana impossible.
I love the characters, so I tend to ascribe all the parts that make me eyeroll to lazy writing and get annoyed at the writers rather than the characters, but yeah, at this point I just want to take the characters away from the writers and protect them from more bad writing. xD
i didn't quite understand what merlin meant when he said that keeping mordred in camelot meant there was still hope.
I'm fairly sure it's just another bit of illogical, lazy writing, but yeah. I was also half-expecting Merlin to help them escape!
They haven't achieved any of the things they were meant to. :( This is what makes me so helplessly angry when I think of Arthur dying in the finale. All that build-up without any kind of pay-off? Just, wtf? What on earth would be the point? And yeah, the show has always been really heavy on the "telling not showing". Arthur's an amazing king! Merlin's an amazingly powerful and wise sorcerer! It's the golden age! Except, uh, how about showing us some of that? Because they definitely still seem to be stumbling around the early stages of the legend, from where I'm standing.
Something Alex said in an interview this morning has rekindled hope for a reveal, so hey, fingers crossed. Though Dragoon's appearance in the trailer is making me seriously worried, too...
