I think this is one of the reasons it fell flat for me on a few levels, despite me REALLY liking a lot of other parts of it. Overall I loved it, and it had a weird, tense tone the whole time and made me feel really squirmy for everyone.

That's pretty much exactly how I felt when I'd just finished watching. It was just such a tense episode, where so many things seemed to be about to happen - I also thought Gaius might be about to die at some point, or that Agravaine would discover something about Merlin, and probably a few other things that I'm forgetting at this point - such a great build-up, that when nothing happened, it felt all the more like an anti-climax.

I think that final scene between Arthur and Gaius somewhat saved the ending for me, though. I'm not sure if Arthur believes him, or if he just believes that Gaius believes it (er, if that makes sense), but if this makes Arthur doubt Dragoon's guilt, I'll be a happy camper. And I think that all through the episode Arthur showed that he was pretty lax about the whole magic thing. I'm also not sure whether or not he knows the magic book was planted, or if he's just decided to let it go, but yeah.

On a totally shallow level, I wish it had had more Arthur and Merlin. Haha.

Ahaha, I know what you mean, but then I thought Colin and Bradley both totally rocked in the ep, so I count that as a win, too. Also, the few scenes they did have together were all so layered even the ones that didn't have sheets. That moment just after Arthur has bought into Agravaine's lies about Gaius, gah.

Merlin is so hurt and angry, and Arthur is trying his best to be open and to be there for Merlin even if he's feeling rather vulnerable himself, and oh, all that tension between them, and I don't even know what it is exactly that I want from this scene, but I still want there to be a hundred fics about it. Mind you, I love me some angry Merlin, especially if there's a happy ending.

I could also do with some happy finding-their-feet again after this ep shook their relationship up fics, haha, especially if Arthur's trying to be a little bit nice. I think that, in a way, I'm glad something happened between them that somewhat changed their dynamic, even if it wasn't a nice thing - and I think nice things can come from it. But I apparently look at every ep wondering what fanfic can come of it, so don't mind me, heh.

Edit: wow, I only realised once I hit post how long this comment was - sorry about that! *g*

I loved seeing his dynamic with Arthur, Gwen and Gwaine and knowing that none of them are alone, even when they're not connecting completely.

Yes, that. <3 <3 <3

Oh, man, I didn't even pay attention to the books! I assumed they had to be horribly obvious to make a point or something. :D

Arthur using the words heart broken like that, man. Boys.

Oh, yes! ♥ They were just both so raw in that scene, askdfdfk, it completely broke my heart but at the same time it also really pulled me in.
