Kilgharrah was totally late getting back from vacation, hence why he only showed up in the last twenty minutes. ;)

Oh, hello, random assassination plot to kill Gwen that Morgana failed to complete because obviously she wouldn't want to look suspicious or anything...

Yeah, I think it was either laziness or perhaps a minor bit of remaining squeamishness on Morgana's part when she left Gwen to die from the dorocha. Morgana's set Gwen up to die plenty of times, but she never strikes the mortal blow. She did it for Morgause, but never brings herself to do it for Gwen. Perhaps there is some significance there?

Also, aww, the little conversation between Arthur and Merlin about who was going to sacrifice themselves. ♥ They both looked really good in that scene, too. :P

They're both so adorable, aren't they? :D

Also, the reunion scene just before that? If the knights hadn't been there, Merlin and Arthur totally would have had "OMG YOU'RE ALIVE!" sex right there and then. :D Instead they either did it in a missing scene where they snuck off for a moment, or they did it on the road back to Camelot although it would also be mixed in with "OMG LANCELOT *cries*!" emotions.

As for Gwaine, I'm hoping that his comic relief position was just for this two-parter because all of the normal comic relief people were busy being serious and preparing to die or whatever. *crosses fingers*

I like this explanation. The poor dragon deserves a holiday somewhere warm after those twenty years in a damp, dark cave!

Well, she did pull a face right after blasting Gwen, so I could actually believe that, but then again, she repeatedly and gleefully plotted Gwen's death in the previous series, and they've got her so 100% evil that I'm not sure they're interested in suddenly giving her that kind of subtlety. Though I'd actually be really happy if they did!

They are! *squishes their faces* And I'd be surprised if there weren't people already writing missing scene sex as we speak. :D

Re Gwaine: yeah. I think it might have also been that they already had Lancelot in the BFF spot for these eps, and they weren't quite sure what to do with him? Plus, like you said, it was a very serious ep, so they probably needed someone to provide comic relief...

I sometimes think Morgana might be a bit more talk than action when it comes to Gwen. Or at least, that's part of my attempt to assign some logic to Morgana's behavior, anyway. Fans like to have characters that make sense, and when the canon falls short, we twist that canon any way we can so it will make sense. ;)

*glees* I hope so! I would totally read and gush over it! *bounces* :D
