Wedding plans

As I'm sure I've mentioned before, my niece is getting married in July, and she and her fiance have asked me to conduct the ceremony. This weekend they found some text that they approved of and handed it over to me. I'll work it over to try to personalize it a bit. "Welcome, everyone, to this happy occasion. It seems perverse for someone who has ( Read more... )

A robe? Comfy, torn flannel? I can see it, but only if their wedding has a pajama-party theme. (Hmm, may have to file that idea away for the future.)

There's always Nordstrom Rack downtown (1601 2nd Ave).

Got any coworkers who are natty dressers? They usually know where to find good independent shops. Or hit a mall that has multiple classic-type stores: Macy's, Lord & Taylor, Bloomie's, Saks, etc. Or men's clothing places, e.g. Brooks Brothers?

Any good vintage clothing stores in town? (There must be!) That's another option.

Thanks for reminding me about the Rack. I went there a couple of times when I worked downtown in the '80s.

I asked Mom if she was thinking a bathrobe, and she said that wasn't a bad idea. I like your idea of wedding as slumber party!

Nordstrom's is probably your best bet. All the other places where Glenn bought suits, back when he bought suits, have gone out of business. Well, except for Goodwill, but I think he only bought one suit there.

I looked at vintage suits before the 2005 Worldcon (when I was all excited about attending the Hugo ceremonies), but I don't think I have the patience for the hunt. The one time I bought a tweed jacket from Nordstrom's, their service was almost appallingly good.

Thanks, that's certainly a familiar name. Maybe I can check out the downtown store when I check out Nordstrom Rack. (Which sounds like a torture device, now that I think of it. Well, that's pretty much what clothes shopping is like for me anyway.)

Well yes you could find a lovely robe or a suit, OR! you could take a page out of Maralyn Manson's book as he made his friend conduct his wedding wearing an oversized stove pipe hat and a white jacket ala- as a late 18th century balloon seller would wear on the streets of upper class England...teehee
