Comet McNaught

Jan 11, 2007 21:05

I think I saw it. The paper said to look at the western horizon right after the sun set, and I did, on the walk home from work (via Bottleworks). When it wasn't blocked by hulking buildings, I saw a bright star-like light on the western horizon that held steady, setting slowly like the sun over the course of twenty minutes. I didn't see a tail, but I remember the newspaper article said something about how a binocular would improve the view, so maybe the tail wasn't obvious to the naked eye. Of course, without a tail it just looked like a really bright star. Not as cool as the last comet visible from Seattle, whatever it was called. Hale-Bopp? I don't remember. On the other hand, McNaught is like a name out of Pynchon.
