AUX FORAINS MORTS GLORIEUSEMENT POUR LA PATRIE 1914-1918 ET 1940-1945 I've been doing some writing about my trip last November, which may become a fanzine or something, perhaps the second issue of my perzine, Way. If nothing else it has been a reason to revisit various pleasures and oddities of the trip, including this statue of a clown with a sword in Brussels, which
pingopark,
reverendjim and I stumbled upon on our way to the Cantillon Brewery. It's a memorial to "fairground entertainers" (forains) who died (gloriously! for the country!) in the two World Wars. Strange, no? Brussels has some very disturbing artwork dedicated to clowns, dolls, and puppets.
