Saw this French thriller with
holyoutlaw at the Egyptian last night. The French title is Ne le dis à personne. Very solid, very engaging, and as full of twists and turns as a mountain switchback. It's about a man whose wife was murdered eight years before, who begins for various reasons (including renewed suspicions of his own involvement) to delve into what really happened back then. This is very much a puzzle film, a mystery, with a big expository dump at the end to connect all the dots. After the movie, we grabbed a small pizza at Bill's Off Broadway and tried to figure out if the big explanation really held together.
Another part of the pleasure of it was the large cast of interesting characters, and glimpses -- mostly superficial -- of material life and social conflict in contemporary France. Some very beautiful or intriguing settings, both in the city and the countryside. It reminded me somewhat of Ben Affleck's Gone, Baby, Gone from last year, although it's less philosophical and has a happier ending.
