I've organized my life a bit. Not really. I just deleted my Xanga account. And this pleases me.
This weekend my family and I went to King, WI to visit my grandpa's cousin Doris, who will be 98 this August. We had a great time and the weather was perfect for a picnic. It was great to see Doris and even better to see her so happy with the good food and (pretty good) company :)
Work is still going well, this past week I was on a surveying crew as one of their members had the week off. It was pretty awesome. Since I was just a grunt worker, I had plenty of downtime as we waited for the crew chief to fill out cut sheets or drive us to our site. I got a little reading in. But I also learned how to really set up various equipments and write on stakes and pound them in (although, since I'm a girl, I didn't really have to do that- which is maybe just as well, I probably would have messed up a few stakes before I got it right) On the last day, I got to take level readings, but my surveying class failed me. Because I was retarded. I took all the readings for the bituminous edge and when we went to close on a hydrant, it didn't close. Sooooo... crew chief Joe was like, wtf? what happened? And then we both realized that I was reading the TOP height off the rod, and I'm really supposed to be reading the LOW height as Brian rocked it. Soooo... yeah... had to redo all the readings which I was consistently .04' high on. And then I got made fun of the rest of the day, which I really deserved. But I did learn quite a bit- got exposed to GPS surveying, and since we only really had total station/level shooting in class, this was quite an interesting set-up (very high tech).
Socially, I'm doing ok :P Could use some more time with friends after work I suppose, but meh! I went to see Pirates with Alana and she made an AWESOME cartoon of it (

But since that was the first weekend off of school for many, the theatre was sold out and we ended up seeing Ocean's 13, which was surprisingly good (I was thinking, wow. #3 in an action series... but it was actually not so bad) And there was Emma's graduation party and all that jazz. This week I also started my darkroom photography class at the Edina Art Center. So far so good! It seems like that'll brighten my next 8 weeks. I also found out that my cousin, Laura, is working in the cities at an art museum, and I called her up and we're planning on doing dinner soon, so that'll really be awesome. I have to visit the museum too :P It's been nice to be so close to Mom and Dad too. I went home the last couple weekends and was able to play tennis with them (JD makes an awesome ball boy), swim, and see a couple movies- Evan Almighty was last night (it's pretty good... kiddish comedy mostly, but pretty good, with some interesting messages).
And as for my flooded room: The carpet was replaced on Friday and I should be able to re-settle into it today (depending on what time I get home) and this week. Which I'm looking forward to. Having a little personal space (especially a sanctuary from the dogs for my things- mike knows the story and it's very girly, so I won't share) will be very much appreciated. I'm gonna start scrap-booking again I think. There's a nice table downstairs... I finished knitting Mike's mittens! And I'm trying to decide which my next project should be- I've several in mind, and they're pretty much all Christmas gifts, so I should really get cracking, but I've been reading a lot lately, too. Right now I'm halfway through Pride and Prejudice, and it's pretty good. I also finished the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime- a murder mystery told through the eyes of an autistic kid (VERY cool, and almost scarily, I could really relate to the kid :P) I also picked up The Not So Big Life by Sara Susanka (from a tip on MN Public Radio- it pays to be a dork) And it's like a self-help book to get the life you want (similar in design to 7 Habits) but it's pretty neat for me to read, since a lot of the examples in there are in regards to home remodeling, which I find interesting in itself. It reminds me that I need to contact UM about their Archi program.
Wow. I sound very very dorky and unsociable in this update. Stupid old English books make my english more stuffy... sorry. But life is grood! And I'm pretty happy with everything. I'll have a busy July 4th week, but if you're in the Cities at ANY time, let me know!
I guess that's it! Hope whoever read all the way through this is having a pretty interesting summer and isn't forced to read this due to boredom :P
