I recently watched a video my uncle sent me because it closely resembles a family reality, apparently.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U08Bv7UQT1 Now I'm watching the real thing, and I assure you, the documentary is scarily similar. Home videos of my mom when she was little with her sister, brother, and parents.
Here's the label on the VHS tape that was compiled about a decade ago so we'd be able to watch this stuff all together:
TAPE 1:
VERY YOUNG KIDS WITH FAMILY, FRIENDS AT MANY CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS, BIRTHDAY PARTIES.
ALSO, VARIOUS VACATIONS WITH CHILDREN, COUSINS & FRIENDS.
HOWEVER, THE SEQUENCES ARE MIXED-UP.
(EXAMPLE: AT HOLLIS HOUSE, THEN AT NHP HOUSE, THEN BACK TO HOLLIS.)
ALSO, POOR CAMERA WORK AND LIGHTING.
My grandfather was harsh on himself when he wrote the label. I guess he'd actually been aspiring to be the next martin scorsese.
Things were so old school in the 50s. My baby uncle, is blinded each Christmas morning by the row of lights needed to get some low-resolution images in. Corny Christmas carols are background for the silent films. But they're in color at least. I'm kind of jealous of the accordion my aunt got for Christmas this year.
I also went to Music City (NASHVILLE) this spring break. What a hilarious city. Parthenon, country music stars, Elvis stuff?? I'll have to go back sometime without my little sister so I can go to all the country music bars.
