Townhouse Spa is Number 1

Dec 30, 2006 23:30

I now have no question or reservation to why Townhouse Spa is considered the best spa in New York City by CitySearch.com. I called on Wednesday to make reservations. Unsure of what to expect, and having read reviews and called other spas for men in the city, I expected nothing but some pretentious flamboyant homosexual or lackluster female to answer the phone. The lady who answered sounded full of excitement and vigor. I explained what I wanted and why, a manicure, pedicure, facial and massage. It was a birthday gift to myself with all the trimmings I have grown to love and expect from the gradieur of unisex spas. I was offered an appointment Saturday at 3:30pm, I took it, jumping at the opportunity having seen the wait at other spas without such rating. I called my little brother up and told him about it and told him he should try to get an appointment around the same time. He too found himself in luck, for a 3:45 appointment.

Saturday morning, after a full breakfast and day of shopping, we started our way into the city. Anticipating the relaxation with stress mounting and knots in my back, we hit traffic. Nothing short of anxiety started to mount as the time neared 3:30 and we were barely at 56th Street. We got to the parking garage next to the spa just in a nick of time.

You open the full height glass door and walk in. You simply see a surgically clean bright double height space with a wood and white marble desk, a bright smiled asian lady and another lady paying for her morning. I guess I expected this place to be packed, people hustling and bustling around like the Man Spa or some other spas I've visited on a Saturday between holidays. We were lead upstairs to the men's lounge where a locker waited for each of us, open, with a robe, towel and slippers. Our hostess left us after short instructions and orientation. The Bath Room featured low lighting , soft aeromas, a shower, bathroom and steam room. We disrobed and put on the robe and slippers, went into the lounge, where a large flat panel TV waited for us playing nothing but high def man movies.

Sam walked in, a tall, burly asian man, who was to be my massuse. I got to the massage room and he left me to prepare myself. I layed on the massage bed which was pleasantly heated and got in massage position. Sam began without much of a word or sound. about 45 minutes later I was in a comotose state being ushered back to the waiting lounge to more movies and my spa buddy arriving in about the same state. Than the facial where I was examined carefully for the best methods for my skin and its conditions before the facial began. Heidi explained every step of the process along the way, leaving me even more comfortable about the situation. The manicure and pedicure given in large leather massage chairs had me asleep with Gabrielle waking me up every now and than to tell me to move my foot.

On the way out, after such a day, Heidi had left a selection of facial products specially for my skin and a different set for my spa buddy. An experience unlike most in New York City. A unisex spa that treats its male customers wtih the same care, dignity and professionalism that it treats its female customers.

An expensive trip, but one worth making. I reiterate that Townhouse Spa deserves it's place as the number one spa for 2006.
