Interview Request for Jewish History & Civilization
Someday...I will have an actual entry in this thing. I swear.
But anyway, for my Intro to Jewish History & Civilization class we're currently studying the theological/cultural differences of different sectors of the Jewish faith that faith today. Part of this is a paper assignment that requires interviews from people involved in the Jewish community. Which unfortunately for me, the only Jewish people I know in my RL I either haven't spoken to in a long time so I'd feel awkward calling them up just for an interview - or have become hardcore atheists who would flip tables if I even attempted to ask for an interview about their Jewish background. So I turn to the internet, since I'm well aware that I'm not aware of everyone's religious background.
For an interview, I'm currently looking for people who identify as Jewish. It doesn't matter the religious movement or if you're currently following up on all the practices - I just need people who identify as Jewish and are possibly involved with the community (or used to be!). Mostly the interview is about what you think is Judaism and what makes a person Jewish, essentially.
I promise anything said in the interview will be confidential outside myself and the people grading my paper, since I'm well aware that talking about religion can be a touchy issue for people. If needed, we can even change your name in the paper itself to protect your identity if that would make you feel more comfortable. Not that the questions are super personal beyond talking about your religion and your opinions on Judaism...but once again, religion can be a emotional subject for people.
So if you identify as Jewish or know someone who does and would be willing to participate in an interview (ask them first!), please comment with a name and email that I can reach you or the person in question at. For the sake of giving me enough time to write up the paper, I would like to have the interviews back by November 20th if possible. If you need a later date than that, tell me and we can probably work something out.
