This is seriously, the coolest pet I have ever had. Leopard geckos FTW. Sasha is just awesome. I thought my class would be grossed out by feeding her live insects, but it's totally the best part of the day for them. They gather around and shriek when the crickets are escaping (especially when they try to hide under the gecko trying to eat them. Crickets ain't that bright...) and crowd around. So cool.
Over the last few days, one of the girls has been particularly active in watching Sasha. About two days ago, A came up to me and told me she thought Sasha was looking very pale and would be shedding her skin soon (they've been doing research). I shrugged it off, since I've been watching too, and hadn't really seen that much change. Every day A would tell me that Sasha would be shedding soon. This morning, I came in and had basically an albino gecko in the cage. When they're about ready to shed, they turn super white. So, when A came in, I showed her to the cage and told her that she was right and I was wrong. Hee. :) Then the kids were convinced that Sasha would shed today, and I told them probably not until the weekend.
Yeah, she shed today. Fucking awesome. It was such a wicked cool thing to watch. She did it over the course of about an hour, just when we didn't really have anything that we were doing, so kids were wandering over to watch in between doing other work. I love Montessori classrooms because we can just stop what we're doing, and watch something else that's educational.
Now I have a nice bright gecko who is super colourful again. Yay!
