Some Days are Made to Stay in Bed

Today one of my students asked why I smoke, and I said "Because I want to die young."

Another student thought a minute before he said " So, do you really think you're young?"

tching!

Soo. I've had a trainwreck of a week. Decided that's what a blog is for, sometimes.

Wednesday night- heading to the Egyptology lecture on campus, I stopped at work to grab some papers. Seems I interrupted a burglary in progress, because the computer room, bosses offices (with 22 brand new computers still in boxes stacked up inside) were wide open, so I spent hours dealing with that. (because apparently it's easier for my bosses to kick back at home and instruct me to inventory their offices and DESCRIBE everything that might be missing over the phone than it is to come in and check their own sh*t)

So, I spent hours on the phone trying to describe what wasn't there, talked to campus security people that night , and headed out only to spend a few blank moments staring at the railing where my bike used to be. So I walked home after midnight, in the snow. And the cat was mad at me for being late, so he wouldn't cuddle.

AND the next day I filed the report myself during lunch- in my free time, not paid time, of course. Since *my bike* was stolen while I was inside talking to security and inventorying etc. the night before, it seemed more convenient to them:( that since I had to do one police report anyway, I should do both. After working past midnight and walking home, yep.
(don’t forget the “Dude, where’s my bike” moment)

But that's not all- when I described my stolen bike, the officer got an awful look on her face. The next day she called and told me they'd found it, and I could come pick it up. It turned out they did indeed "find" it, exactly where I parked it. While I was inside dealing with security, the campus police found this "abandoned bike" outside ( they decided since it didn't have a little registration sticker it must have been abandoned outside the building where the break in occurred) so they just walked off with it. :P

And did any of these people offer me a ride to go pick it up? HELL NO, I got to hike 15 blocks across campus in the snow and do more paperwork. And oh yeah, pay for a registration sticker so they don't do it again. (And I did ask- if somebody really steals it now, the police won't collect it if they find it, because yeah, it's got the sticker now) Grumble. Grrr.

And, just to put the cherry on top, I missed the lecture on death images in Egyptology too.

Next time, I think I’ll just hold the door open for the burglars, so I can keep an eye on my bike and get home at a reasonable hour..

heh. Now I'm going to kick back and have a drink and chocolate. Possibly more.

Happy Valentines Day, all!

hey i posted something personal, worthless play
