Hello! Wow... I just realized how eventful August has been. Since the last time I got to update this blog, the following things happened:

1. Debates about the RH Bill being passed have been causing massive splits and debates between Pro and Anti RH groups.

2. The day after Senate decided to end debates about RH Bill, Habagat, the storm with no name, ravaged Manila in a scale rivaling Ondoy. This led some fanatical people to make comments on Facebook about how the damage was a sign from the heavens of how displeased God is with the way people are supporting the bill. This gave the anti RH proponents on Facebook a field day to call the Pro RH many--and often undeserved--names despite the actual presence of intelligent arguments by anti RH Bill supporters.

3. "Habagat" continued to pour in and leave many people stranded and fleeing their very own homes. Meanwhile, Red Cross and other independent groups began to help out in locating people and posting updates for those who can help from home. Never was social networking so helpful as on August 7! Because of relief efforts and the initiative of private groups to extend help, the damage caused by the storm was not as terrible as that of Ondoy. (Not to mention, UA&P also received a number of comments because of its short popularity on Twitter and Facebook because of its utilization of the media to request goods and other forms of help from netizens. I guess this just goes to show how something as inspiring as helping out can still be a topic of criticism for others. Let's just pray for their enlightenment. :))

4. For the whole week, classes were suspended in a number of areas due to the extent of damage cause by flood. I'd also like to think that LGU's took the initiative to consider the people who had to recover from the loss and damage of their private property. Not to mention, to allow more focus for relief efforts.

5. The following week, it was a long holiday, because of the end of Ramadan and Ninoy Aquino Day. How many years has it been since EDSA 1? Unfortunately, the weekend prior to the holiday, DILG Secretary Robredo and two companions had been missing, as their plane had crashed somewhere in Masbate. On Tuesday, they finally located the late secretary's body. This entire week has been about remembering him and honoring the legacy that he left-- the good work he had done while in government.

6. Last Wednesday was the awarding ceremony for the recently-concluded Essay writing contest on Calidad Humana. The project was sponsored by the Embassy of Chile and made possible with the cooperation of the University of Asia and the Pacific and the University of Sto. Tomas. Having been part of the organizing team had definitely taught me a lot about planning these projects. It consumed most of my attention in the previous year, and looking back at how I accomplished some of the demands just leaves me thankful that God kept me steady and strong despite the demands. (More on that in later entries)

7. Today is another holiday. It is National Heroes Day. And in as much as I would like to work more today to catch up with the requirements that had been lagging behind schedule, it seems that my mind refuses high level mental work. Or rather, anything higher than leisurely activities. This past semester, in fact, has been very counter productive. I would like to blame it on the moody weather and the constant rains which never fail to affect me.

So recently, to help me focus again and to get my hands busy with something other than typing on the keyboard, I discovered AMIGURUMI and found myself hooked on it. Eh, eh? *wink, wink*

So for today, this is what I finished, and I hope that soon enough, I'll find myself making cute plush toys of videogame characters.

This little purse took me almost two days to finish. I'd have to say that it's a good reason to procrastinate, as well as a good reason to take a break from the daily grind. Ironically, it's difficult for me to crochet when I'm at the dorm, and when it's a work day. I guess this is all the more a reason for me to keep crocheting when it's a holiday!

Until the next post. ;)
